About the project

The transformation

This block paved driveway had significant moss growth within the joints, along with years of dirt and organic build-up that had dulled the natural colour of the paving. We began by assessing the condition of the driveway and planning the most effective restoration process.

The driveway was professionally deep cleaned to remove built-up dirt, moss and organic contamination. During the cleaning process, all existing jointing sand was removed, taking with it the moss, algae and organic spores that had established themselves between the blocks. Once the driveway had fully dried, fresh kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints before the surface was mechanically compacted using a rubber-padded compaction plate. This safely re-stabilises the block paving while protecting the surface from damage. Following compaction, a second application of kiln-dried sand was worked into the joints to ensure they were completely filled, maximising the stability and lifespan of the driveway. To complete the restoration, we applied our Chiltern EverGuard™ treatment. It penetrates the surface and joints to eliminate remaining organic spores while providing 12–24 months of protection against moss, algae, black spot and lichen growth, helping keep the driveway cleaner for longer.

The finished driveway is brighter, cleaner and completely free from moss, with its natural colour restored and the block paving fully re-stabilised. Protected with Chiltern EverGuard™, it is now far more resistant to future biological growth and easier to maintain.

Step by step

How this project was restored

Every project follows a careful, surface-specific process — here’s exactly how we approached this one.

  1. 01

    Initial Inspection

This block paved driveway had significant moss growth within the joints, along with years of dirt and organic build-up that had dulled the natural colour of the paving. We began by assessing the condition of the driveway and planning the most effective restoration process.

  2. 02

    Deep Surface Cleaning

The driveway was professionally deep cleaned to remove built-up dirt, moss and organic contamination. During the cleaning process, all existing jointing sand was removed, taking with it the moss, algae and organic spores that had established themselves between the blocks.

  3. 03

    Re-Sanding & Mechanical Re-Stabilisation

Once the driveway had fully dried, fresh kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints before the surface was mechanically compacted using a rubber-padded compaction plate. This safely re-stabilises the block paving while protecting the surface from damage.

  4. 04

    Final Re-Sanding

Following compaction, a second application of kiln-dried sand was worked into the joints to ensure they were completely filled, maximising the stability and lifespan of the driveway.

  5. 05

    Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment

To complete the restoration, we applied our Chiltern EverGuard™ treatment. It penetrates the surface and joints to eliminate remaining organic spores while providing 12–24 months of protection against moss, algae, black spot and lichen growth, helping keep the driveway cleaner for longer.

  6. 06

    The Result

The finished driveway is brighter, cleaner and completely free from moss, with its natural colour restored and the block paving fully re-stabilised. Protected with Chiltern EverGuard™, it is now far more resistant to future biological growth and easier to maintain.
