Sandstone Patio and Brick Steps Restoration in Penn

This large sandstone patio had not been cleaned or treated for many years and was showing widespread black spot and general organic contamination. The customer specifically wanted the patio to remain in keeping with the character of the property, so our objective was to significantly reduce the black spot without leaving the sandstone looking unnaturally bright or brand new.

The patio was professionally deep cleaned to remove years of dirt, surface contamination and the upper layer of organic growth. This revealed the natural character of the sandstone while maintaining the aged appearance requested by the client. Following the cleaning process, we applied our Chiltern EverGuard™ treatment. As sandstone is a porous natural material, the treatment penetrates beneath the surface to eliminate remaining black spot spores and biological growth within the stone itself, providing 12–24 months of protection against future regrowth. The brick steps had accumulated years of dirt, organic staining and concrete residue from previous building works. Using specialist cleaning techniques, we removed the contamination and restored the natural colour of the bricks, leaving them noticeably cleaner and more defined. To complete the restoration, the brick steps were also treated with Chiltern EverGuard™. This helps eliminate any remaining biological spores and provides long-lasting protection against moss, algae, lichens and black spot, keeping the steps cleaner for longer.

The sandstone patio and brick steps were successfully restored while preserving the property’s established character. The black spot was dramatically reduced, the brickwork revitalised, and both surfaces are now protected with Chiltern EverGuard™, helping to prevent biological regrowth for the next 12–24 months.
