About the project

The transformation

This block paved driveway had been left untreated for many years and was showing widespread staining, organic contamination and numerous concrete splashes from historic building works. We began by assessing the condition of the driveway to determine the most effective restoration process.

The driveway was professionally deep cleaned to remove years of dirt, algae, moss and surface contamination. During this process, all of the old jointing sand was removed, eliminating the organic spores and debris that had built up between the blocks over time. Once the driveway had dried, fresh kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints before the entire surface was mechanically re-stabilised using a rubber-padded compaction plate. This locks the blocks back together without risking damage to the paving. A second application of kiln-dried sand was then brushed into the joints, ensuring they were completely filled and leaving the driveway fully stabilised and ready for protection. To complete the restoration, we applied our Chiltern EverGuard™ treatment. The treatment penetrates the surface and joints to eliminate remaining organic spores while providing 12–24 months of protection against algae, moss, lichens and other biological growth, helping the driveway stay cleaner for longer.

The completed restoration leaves the driveway looking clean, vibrant and professionally restored. With fresh jointing sand, full mechanical re-stabilisation and Chiltern EverGuard™ protection in place, the driveway is better protected against future biological growth and will remain easier to maintain for years to come.

Step by step

How this project was restored

Every project follows a careful, surface-specific process — here’s exactly how we approached this one.

  1. 01

    Initial Inspection

This block paved driveway had been left untreated for many years and was showing widespread staining, organic contamination and numerous concrete splashes from historic building works. We began by assessing the condition of the driveway to determine the most effective restoration process.

  2. 02

    Deep Surface Cleaning

The driveway was professionally deep cleaned to remove years of dirt, algae, moss and surface contamination. During this process, all of the old jointing sand was removed, eliminating the organic spores and debris that had built up between the blocks over time.

  3. 03

    Re-Sanding & Mechanical Re-Stabilisation

Once the driveway had dried, fresh kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints before the entire surface was mechanically re-stabilised using a rubber-padded compaction plate. This locks the blocks back together without risking damage to the paving.

  4. 04

    Final Re-Sanding

A second application of kiln-dried sand was then brushed into the joints, ensuring they were completely filled and leaving the driveway fully stabilised and ready for protection.

  5. 05

    Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment

To complete the restoration, we applied our Chiltern EverGuard™ treatment. The treatment penetrates the surface and joints to eliminate remaining organic spores while providing 12–24 months of protection against algae, moss, lichens and other biological growth, helping the driveway stay cleaner for longer.

  6. 06

    The Result

The completed restoration leaves the driveway looking clean, vibrant and professionally restored. With fresh jointing sand, full mechanical re-stabilisation and Chiltern EverGuard™ protection in place, the driveway is better protected against future biological growth and will remain easier to maintain for years to come.
