Marlow Patio Restoration
A natural stone patio in Marlow showing heavy moss growth and widespread black spot, cleaned back to the stone and protected with Chiltern EverGuard™.
Project Transformation
A riven sandstone patio in Wokingham that had gone green and grown a seam of weed through every joint. Cleaned back to the stone and the joints put right.

BeforeAfterAbout the project
Before restoration began, the patio was cleared to provide safe and unobstructed access across the complete working area. The surrounding surfaces, planting and external features were assessed and protected as required, allowing the restoration to be completed safely and methodically.
The complete patio received an application of professional surface-cleaning treatment. This pre-treatment was selected to begin breaking down the heavy black spot, algae, lichen and moss established across the paving. It was allowed sufficient dwell time to penetrate the contamination before the main mechanical restoration process began. Using a professional rotary surface cleaner, we methodically restored the main areas of the patio. The equipment provided consistent cleaning across the large paved surface, removing loosened dirt, algae, moss and organic contamination while maintaining controlled pressure across the slabs. A carefully controlled turbo nozzle was then used to restore areas requiring more precise attention. This included slab edges, joints, corners and sections suffering from particularly heavy black spot and lichen. Combining the surface cleaner with targeted turbo-nozzle work allowed us to achieve a more detailed and consistent result across the complete patio. Following the main restoration process, the patio was inspected to identify sections where the existing jointing had failed or deteriorated. Loose and defective material was removed from the affected areas before new jointing material was installed locally between the slabs. These targeted repairs improved the appearance of the patio and helped restore greater stability and definition to the affected sections. Following the restoration process, the surface received an application of Chiltern EverGuard™, our professional surface protection treatment. Chiltern EverGuard™ penetrates the surface to help protect against the regrowth of moss, algae and lichen, keeping the surface cleaner for longer. Protection typically lasts between 12 and 24 months, depending on the property's location, surrounding environment and ongoing maintenance. The treatment also helps inhibit the return of black spot and continues working in the weeks and months following application, allowing residual organic staining to gradually break down and release from the paving.
To complete the project, the patio and surrounding working areas received a thorough final clean-down. Remaining residue and debris generated during the restoration were removed, leaving the area clean, tidy and ready for the client to enjoy. The completed restoration left the large patio considerably brighter and more attractive, with the heavy organic contamination removed, defective jointing repaired and Chiltern EverGuard™ in place to provide ongoing protection.

Every project follows a careful, surface-specific process — here’s exactly how we approached this one.
