Gutter Cleaningin Bracknell
Much of Bracknell was built as planned New Town neighbourhoods, with concrete-tiled roofs and green spaces whose trees have since grown tall. We vacuum out the grit, moss and leaves those bring, flush the downpipes and report what we find.
- Tile grit and moss removed
- Outlets and downpipes cleared
- Short report on the roofline

Starting point
Not all gutter debris comes from trees some of it comes off the roof
Leaves are the obvious culprit, but a good share of what we take out of gutters on estate housing is heavier: grit worn from the surface of concrete tiles, and moss that grows in their texture and slides off in wet weather. This material sinks to the bottom of the channel and gathers at the outlet, where it sets into a firm sludge that rain alone will not move.

Bracknell homes
Planned neighbourhoods that have grown green
Bracknell expanded rapidly as a post-war New Town, laid out as planned neighbourhoods with their own housing, green spaces and local centres. Later estates and newer homes followed, while places such as Easthampstead, Binfield and Warfield keep older buildings of their own. Concrete tile is a common roof covering across much of the town.
The town is known for its green spaces and mature planting. Trees put in when the neighbourhoods were laid out have had decades to grow, and many now stand level with or above the roofs nearby. Shaded slopes stay damp, moss takes hold on the tiles, and each autumn the leaves add to what the roof has already shed into the gutters.
Off the roof
Concrete tiles, surface grit and moss
Concrete tiles are durable, but their surface weathers over the years and releases fine, sandy grit that washes down with every heavy shower. Their textured face also holds moisture, which suits moss. When the moss dries or is loosened by rain, it breaks off in clumps and lands in the gutter.
Grit and moss together make a dense, heavy deposit that leaves cannot match. It is why some gutters block at the outlet even on houses with no trees nearby.
Matured planting
Trees that were saplings when the houses went up
Many neighbourhoods were planned with open green space, verges and planting between the houses. Trees that started small now reach over roofs and drop leaves, seeds and twigs straight into the gutters. Houses facing onto green space or backing onto woodland edges tend to collect more than those on open streets.
If a tree has grown up beside your house in the time you have lived there, your gutters are likely to need clearing more often than they once did.
Similar houses
Same design, same weak points
Where houses on a street were built to the same few designs, their gutters often fail in the same places: the outlet at one corner, the joint above the porch, the run over the garage. If neighbours have had an overflow at a particular spot, it is worth having yours looked at before it does the same.
We still assess each house on its own condition, because trees, aspect and past maintenance vary even between identical homes.
- Outlets set close to a corner
- Joints over porches and entrances
- Gutters on attached garages and extensions
The visit
Five steps from inspection to report
Most gutters on two-storey estate homes can be cleared from the ground with the vacuum pole. Anything that cannot is planned at the site visit.
- 01
Look along the roofline
We check the gutters, outlets, downpipes and the tile edge above them, noting where grit and moss have built up and any split, sagging or loose sections.
- 02
Vacuum out the sludge
The pole-fed vacuum, operated from ground level, draws out leaves, moss and compacted grit. Where a run is out of reach, a properly footed ladder is used instead.
- 03
Flush and watch
Water is run along each channel and down every downpipe until it drains freely. If it backs up below ground, we say so rather than assume.
- 04
Tighten up what we can
Loose brackets and parted joints are re-seated where that will hold. Cracked sections and gutters that need re-hanging are recorded for a specialist.
- 05
Tell you what we saw
You receive a short, plain note on the gutters and the roof edge, including any slipped tiles we noticed from below.
Keep in mind
Clearing the gutter does not clean the roof
Gutter cleaning removes the grit and moss that have reached the channel. The moss still growing on the tiles will keep shedding until the roof is dealt with, which is a separate service with its own assessment.
Cleaning also does not repair a leaking joint, replace a cracked section or correct a run without enough fall, and it cannot reach blockages in buried drains.

Questions
Gutter Cleaning in Bracknell: your questions
Why is there sand in my gutters?
It is most likely grit from the roof. Concrete tiles weather slowly and release fine, sandy particles that wash into the gutters with rain. Mixed with moss, it settles into a heavy sludge at the outlets.
My gutters block but there are no trees nearby. Why?
Usually because the roof itself is the source. Moss growing on concrete tiles breaks off in clumps, and tile grit builds up with it. On many houses that is enough to block an outlet without a single leaf.
Can you clear gutters on a two-storey house from the ground?
Usually, yes. The vacuum pole reaches the gutters on most two-storey homes from ground level. Where something such as a conservatory or deep planting gets in the way, we agree another safe approach at the site visit.
Do you clean the gutter on an attached garage?
Yes. Garage, porch and extension gutters are included where agreed. They are often under the main roof and take extra water and debris from it, so they can block sooner than you would expect.
Will gutter cleaning remove the moss from my roof?
No. We remove the moss that has fallen into the gutters. Moss still on the tiles is a Roof Cleaning job, which is a separate service with its own assessment and method.
How often should estate homes have their gutters cleared?
Once a year suits many homes, and twice for houses under mature trees or with a mossy roof. We suggest an interval once we have seen how much came out and what it was.
