Gutter Cleaning · Oxfordshire
Nettlebed stands high in the Chilterns, ringed by beech woods and common land, so its gutters take in more woodland debris than most. We clear them, flush the downpipes and help you time visits around the leaf fall.

Woodland setting
Homes surrounded by beech and mixed woodland receive leaves, husks, twigs and moss far beyond the usual autumn load. Much of it lands in the gutters and stays wet under the canopy, breaking down into a heavy mat. Clearing that properly, and at the right moment in the year, makes the difference between a gutter that copes and one that overflows.

Nettlebed homes
Nettlebed is a South Oxfordshire village set high in the wooded Chilterns between Henley-on-Thames and Wallingford. For centuries it was one of the Chilterns' main centres for brick and tile making, and its conservation-area centre and many listed dwellings still show that heritage in their brickwork and old clay roofs.
Beech woods, mature trees and large stretches of common land surround the village, so houses here often stand close to the canopy or in partial shade. Leaf fall is heavy, roofs dry slowly and moss settles readily on old tiles. Larger detached properties add garages and outbuildings, each with gutters of its own.
Under the canopy
Beech trees drop not only leaves but the spiky husks that hold their nuts, along with twigs and bud scales in spring. In a wooded setting this material arrives over a long season and in volume, and gutters close to the trees can fill within weeks once autumn starts.
Under shade it does not dry and blow out. It settles, softens and compacts, binding with moss washed from the roof into a mat that holds water and weighs on the brackets.
Timing
Clearing too early in autumn can mean the gutters fill again before the winter rain arrives. Many wooded properties are best done once the bulk of the leaves are down, often late in the season, with a second visit in spring or early summer to remove husks, seed and moss that built up over winter.
Homes beneath evergreens or under a heavily mossed roof collect debris all year, so for them frequency matters more than timing. We suggest a pattern once we have seen how much came out.
Roof and gutters together
Where the roof above is carrying heavy moss, it will keep feeding the gutters however often they are cleared. If you are also thinking about Roof Cleaning, it makes sense to plan the two together, because moss brought down from the roof ends up in the gutters, and clearing them first only for them to refill is wasted effort.
When a roof is cleaned, we clear its gutters afterwards as standard, so the two jobs finish together.
How we work
The access for each run, including any outbuildings, is agreed at the free site visit, so the day itself runs to a plan.
We check every gutter on the house and its outbuildings, the outlets and downpipes, and how close the trees stand, noting tired brackets and dripping joints.
Leaves, husks, moss and silt are drawn out with a pole-fed vacuum from ground level where possible, or from a properly footed ladder where the run calls for it.
Water runs through each channel and down every downpipe while we watch the outflow, so a slow pipe is found now rather than in the next downpour.
A bracket that has dropped under the weight of wet debris, or a joint that has parted, is re-seated where it is a simple job. Bigger faults are reported.
The gutter faces are washed down, debris leaves with us, and you receive a short summary plus our suggestion on how often the property needs clearing.
Plain facts
No clean keeps a gutter clear under a beech canopy for long. Clearing restores the flow and takes the weight off the brackets, but it does not stop leaves falling or moss growing on the roof, and it will not repair a cracked or sagging run.
On most wooded plots, a regular interval is the realistic aim rather than a one-off clear-out.
Why us
Wooded settings, packed channels and wet, compacted debris are the conditions we work in across the Chilterns.
Garages and outbuildings can be added to the visit, each listed in the quotation so you know exactly what is covered.
We suggest when, and how often, your property should be cleared, based on what actually came out of the gutters.
Fully insured operatives, with ladders used only where a pole-fed vacuum from the ground cannot reach a run properly.
Nearby
We also clear gutters in nearby Highmoor, Nuffield, Bix, Stoke Row, Russell's Water and Rotherfield Peppard. Most share the same woodland setting, so the same thorough approach applies to each.

Questions
Late in autumn, once most leaves have fallen, catches the heaviest load before winter. Many wooded homes benefit from a second visit in spring to remove husks, seed and moss left behind by the winter.
Yes. They can be included in the same visit. We list each building at the site visit so the quotation shows precisely which gutters are covered and how each will be reached.
Sometimes. A run packed with sodden leaves and moss holds standing water, which adds weight to every bracket. Over time a bracket can drop or a joint can part. We re-seat minor faults and report anything larger.
Only if the roof needs it. Where heavy moss on the tiles keeps refilling the gutters, planning both together avoids clearing the gutters twice. We will tell you honestly whether the roof is the main source.
No. Debris is lifted out with a vacuum or by hand, and water is used only to flush the channels and downpipes so we can see them drain.
For homes close to the woods, usually twice a year, and sometimes more under evergreens. More open properties may manage with one visit. We suggest an interval after the first clear.
