Solar Panel Cleaning · Oxfordshire
Nettlebed sits high in the wooded Chilterns, surrounded by beech woods and common land. Panels here take a steady fall of pollen, leaves and bird mess through the year. We clean them with pure water and a soft brush, nothing more.

Our view
Where trees surround a house, a solar array is never clean for long, and the temptation is to reach for something stronger. We do the opposite. De-ionised water, soft bristles and a careful rinse lift what has settled, the frames are cleared as well as the glass, and nothing is left behind to attract the next layer.

Nettlebed
Nettlebed lies high in the Chiltern Hills between Henley-on-Thames and Wallingford, with a conservation-area centre and many listed buildings. For centuries it was one of the most important places in the Chilterns for making bricks and tiles, and that heritage still shows in the older houses around the village.
Beech woodland, mature hedges and open common surround the village, and many homes sit on generous plots close to trees. For solar panels that means a long season of debris: pollen in spring, honeydew and bird activity in summer, leaves and beech husks in autumn. Shade from the woods also keeps some roofs damp, so moss can take hold in whatever collects along the frames.
Through the seasons
Each season brings something different, and knowing which matters most on your array helps decide when to clean. Rain deals with very little of it.
Close to the ground
On larger rural plots, panels are sometimes set on frames in the garden or fitted to a stable, barn or garage roof rather than the house. Height is less of a problem, but low arrays have their own dirt. Grass clippings from mowing, soil splashed up by heavy rain, insects and leaf litter from nearby hedges all reach them.
Being within arm's reach does not change the method. Every panel is brushed with pure water, the frames and lower edges are cleared, and the whole array is rinsed and left to dry. We avoid knocking or leaning on mounting frames and cabling while we work.
Scope
Solar panels are part of an electrical system, and cleaning them deals with the outside of the glass only. We do not open junction boxes, test wiring, check an inverter or measure output, and we do not lift or adjust panels.
What we can do is look. During the final check we note anything visible from a safe position, such as a cracked panel, a lifted seal or a fixing that seems to have moved, and tell you so you can ask a qualified solar installer to look at it. If an array appears damaged before we start, we will raise that before cleaning.
The method
A free site visit comes first, so we know how each panel will be reached and what has built up. On the day the work then runs in this order.
We confirm the layout, the pitch or mounting height, the trees overhead and the safest place to work from, and check the visible state of the frames and seals.
The pole feeds purified water through a soft brush, which is drawn across each panel to release pollen, honeydew, droppings and the fine grime beneath.
Leaves, husks and moss packed along the lower frames and into the corners are worked free so they no longer hold water against the panel edge.
A final rinse of pure water carries away the loosened dirt, and the panels are left to dry by themselves without any wiping or towelling.
We look over the cleaned array and tell you what we found, including anything around the seals or fixings that a solar installer should see.
Fair expectations
Cleaning removes the dirt that is shading the glass and clears the frames. It does not change the shade the trees themselves cast, and with woodland this close, debris returns each season.
Why us
Roof-mounted panels, ground-mounted frames, outbuilding roofs and solar thermal collectors are all cleaned with the same pure-water method.
De-ionised water only, so nothing is left on the glass and nothing runs off into lawns, hedges or the woodland edge.
We clean and we tell you what we saw. Electrical work and repairs stay with a qualified installer, and we say so.
Fully insured operatives, a clear quotation before work starts, and the access for each panel agreed at the site visit.
Nearby
We also clean solar panels in the hamlets and villages nearby, including Highmoor, Nuffield, Bix, Stoke Row, Russell's Water and Crocker End. Most share the same wooded surroundings, so the same care with frames and debris applies.

Questions
Yes. Ground-mounted arrays are cleaned with the same de-ionised water and soft brush as roof panels. Because each panel is within reach, we can attend to every face, frame and edge individually.
Late autumn, once the leaves are down, clears the heaviest load before winter. Some owners also like a clean after the spring pollen. Once a year suits many homes; twice is often worthwhile beneath trees.
No. Cleaning is not an electrical inspection, and we do not test output or the inverter. We will tell you about anything visibly wrong, but performance questions belong with a qualified solar installer.
Products can leave a film that attracts fresh dirt and runs off into the garden. Purified water with patient brushing lifts even heavy deposits, so there is no need for anything else on the glass.
Yes. Evacuated tubes and flat-plate collectors are cleaned with the same pure water, with extra care taken around the manifolds and seals, which are built differently from a PV panel.
No. Roof-mounted arrays are reached with a water-fed pole from the ground where access allows. If a section cannot be reached safely, we will explain this during the site visit.
