Solar Panel Cleaningin Goring
Goring sits where the Thames cuts through wooded hills, and many homes have mature trees close by. That means sap, leaf fragments and moss on solar panels as well as dust. We lift them gently with pure water and a soft brush.
- Sap and leaf debris lifted
- Moss cleared from the frames
- No chemicals near the river

Why it matters
Trees give shade and drop debris and panels feel both
A solar array under or beside trees has a harder time than one in open sky. Sticky residue, pollen and leaf fragments land on the glass, shade keeps it damp, and the bottom frames slowly fill with organic matter. Rain moves some of it but rarely all. A careful clean takes away what has settled without adding anything new.

The Goring Gap
Riverside homes beneath wooded hills
Goring-on-Thames lies on the east bank of the River Thames, at the western edge of the Chilterns National Landscape, where the river passes through the Goring Gap. The older village, much of it a conservation area, is built of flint, brick and render under plain clay tiles, and around it sit larger riverside houses and more recent homes.
Wooded slopes, established gardens and trees along the water give the village its character, and they also shape what collects on solar panels. Arrays near the canopy gather sap, pollen and leaf litter. Damp air off the river and long hours of shade slow the drying of the glass, which is why moss so often appears along the lower edge of panels here.
Under the canopy
Sap, pollen and leaf fragments on the glass
Trees shed more than leaves. Through spring and summer, some species drip sap or honeydew that dries into sticky spots, pollen drifts down as a fine coating, and small twigs and bud cases come to rest against the frames. In autumn the leaves follow, and the wet ones can stick flat to the panel.
Detergent is not needed to shift any of this. De-ionised water softens the residue, soft bristles lift it, and a thorough rinse carries it off. Where a sticky patch is stubborn, we go over it again gently rather than reaching for anything harsher.
Damp and moss
Why moss gathers along the bottom of shaded panels
Rain runs down a panel and carries fine grit and organic matter with it. On an open roof that material is washed off the edge. On a shaded array that dries slowly, it settles in the angle where the bottom frame meets the glass, stays wet and becomes a seedbed for moss.
We clear that line from the frames and corners as part of every clean, using the same soft brush and pure water as on the glass. If moss on the surrounding roof is feeding the problem, we will tell you, because the panels will keep collecting it until the roof itself is dealt with.
Near the water
Nothing washed into gardens that run down to the river
Many gardens here slope towards the Thames or sit close to it, with lawns, borders and ponds below the roofline. Whatever runs off an array during cleaning ends up there.
Our solar method uses de-ionised water alone. There is no soap, no additive and no chemical treatment, so the rinse that leaves your panels is simply water carrying away the dirt it lifted. Your planting, lawn and any wildlife at the bottom of the garden are not exposed to cleaning products from the roof.
How we work
The clean, from survey to final rinse
It starts with a free site visit, where we confirm how the array can be reached from the ground and what has built up on it.
- 01
Survey the array
We look at the panel layout, roof pitch, nearby trees and the ground below, check the frames and seals, and decide where the water-fed pole will be worked from.
- 02
Soften the residue
The glass is wetted with de-ionised water so that sap, pollen and dried droppings start to loosen before the brush moves across them.
- 03
Brush faces and frames
A soft-bristle brush works over each panel and along the lower frame and corners, clearing moss and leaf debris as well as the open glass.
- 04
Rinse and leave to dry
A final pure-water rinse removes everything loosened, and the array dries in the open air. Nothing is towelled across the glass.
- 05
Report what we saw
We look over the cleaned panels from a safe position and mention anything visible around the seals, frames or fixings that might need a specialist.
Plain facts
What to expect when panels sit among trees
A clean clears the glass and the frames, but it cannot do anything about the shade the trees cast, and debris will start arriving again with the next season. Panels in a leafy spot usually need cleaning more often than those in the open.
We also do not promise a rise in generation, since that depends on how dirty the array was, its orientation, the time of year and the system itself. Damage or electrical faults belong with a solar installer.
Why us
Why homeowners trust us with their panels

Questions
Solar Panel Cleaning in Goring: your questions
Can you remove tree sap from solar panels?
Yes. Sap and honeydew soften with de-ionised water and lift with a soft brush, sometimes over a second or third gentle pass. We do not use solvents, detergents or scrapers on the glass.
Why is there moss on my panels when they are only a few years old?
Moss does not grow on the glass itself so much as in the debris that collects along the bottom frame. On a shaded, slow-drying array that debris stays damp, and moss takes hold in it. Clearing the frames removes it.
How often should panels under trees be cleaned?
Once a year suits many homes, but arrays close to trees often benefit from twice, for example after spring pollen and again after the leaves have fallen. We will suggest an interval once we have seen your panels.
Is your cleaning safe for a garden that runs down to the river?
Yes. We use de-ionised water only, with no detergents or chemicals, so the run-off is just water and the dirt it has lifted from the glass.
Will you need to go on the roof?
No. Most domestic arrays are reached with a water-fed pole from the ground, and nobody stands on the panels. If any section cannot be reached that way, we explain it at the site visit.
Will clean panels generate more electricity?
Not by an amount we can predict. Removing dirt clears shading from the glass, but output also depends on orientation, season, the shade from nearby trees and the condition of the system, so we never quote a figure.
