Gutter Cleaning · Oxfordshire
Henley-on-Thames has period houses whose roofs have been altered over centuries, and larger homes with garages, porches and extensions at several heights. We clear every level of guttering, flush each downpipe and tell you plainly what we saw.

Where to start
On a house with several roof levels, the front gutter is the one everybody looks at, yet the run behind a dormer, above a porch or along a garage is often the one that has filled. We map every level of the roofline before clearing anything, so nothing that drains the building is left out.

Henley rooflines
Henley-on-Thames grew up beside the river, and its historic centre is unusually rich in old buildings. Georgian fronts often conceal much earlier structures behind them, and a large number of properties are listed. Roofs like these have usually been extended, repaired and re-covered more than once, so a single building can carry several gutter materials and outlets added piecemeal.
Away from the centre, leafy residential roads and larger houses towards the Chiltern slopes bring a different challenge: main roofs, lower extensions, garages, outbuildings and porches, each with its own short run. Mature gardens and the wooded hills around the town add leaves, seeds and roof moss to all of them.
Several levels
A larger house rarely has one gutter. Water from the main roof may fall onto a lower roof before it reaches its own gutter, a garage may share a downpipe with the house, and a small dormer channel can feed straight into the run below it. When one stage blocks, the overflow often shows somewhere else entirely, which is why a patch of damp on a side wall can trace back to a gutter two levels up.
Older guttering
On older buildings we often find cast iron alongside later plastic sections, joints that have been resealed more than once and brackets that have been moved. None of that makes a gutter unsuitable for clearing, but it changes how we handle it.
Old cast iron is cleared without levering against it, rust and weeping joints are noted, and a run that has dropped is reported rather than pushed back into place. Where a section is already failing, a specialist repair is the right next step, and repeated cleaning will not change that.
Selling a house
Weeds sprouting from a gutter, green tide marks under the eaves and water spilling over a porch are all things a buyer notices on a viewing, and a surveyor is likely to note them. Clearing the runs and washing the green streaking off the outer faces of the gutters and fascias presents the roofline as looked after.
It also means any genuine defect, such as a cracked joint or a dropped bracket, is found by you first, with time to decide what to do about it. Cleaning cannot certify that the drainage is sound, but it removes the most common reason it fails.
How the visit runs
The order of work stays the same on every house. The access for each level is agreed at the free site visit, not worked out on the day.
We go round the whole building, including garages and outbuildings, noting each gutter run, outlet and downpipe, the material it is made of and any joint or bracket that already looks tired.
Debris is drawn out with a pole-fed gutter vacuum from the ground wherever the run allows. Higher or awkward sections above glass or deep overhangs are reached with a properly footed ladder instead.
Each channel is flushed with clean water and every downpipe is run through, so we watch it drain rather than assume it does. A blockage further down in buried drainage is noted for separate investigation.
A loose bracket or a joint that has pulled apart is re-seated where that is a small fix. Cracked lengths, failed seals and runs that have lost their fall are reported instead.
Green streaking is washed off the outer faces of the gutters, fascias and soffits, the debris leaves with us, and you receive a short written summary covering each level.
Worth knowing
Clearing restores the route for rainwater on a gutter that is sound. It does not mend a failed joint, re-hang a sagging run or put right damage that years of overflow have already done to a wall or a timber fascia.
Why us
We clear the runs above garages, porches, extensions and dormers as well as the main eaves, because the hidden ones are often the blocked ones.
Period gutters are cleared without force, and anything rusted, cracked or sagging is pointed out rather than disturbed further.

Questions
Yes. We note every level at the site visit and agree how each one will be reached. Most runs are cleared with a pole-fed vacuum from the ground, and the rest from a properly footed ladder where the layout calls for it.
Yes, if you would like them included. Detached garages, stores and garden buildings often have their own gutters that nobody checks. We list each one at the site visit so the quotation shows exactly which runs are covered.
Yes, with care. Cast iron is heavy and its joints and brackets may be decades old, so we clear it without levering or leaning on it. Rust, weeping joints and dropped brackets are reported, because they need a specialist rather than more force.
Yes, if they have not been cleared for some time. A buyer notices plants in a gutter and green streaks below it, and a surveyor may record them. Clearing first lets you deal with any genuine defect before someone else finds it.
Most homes need it once or twice a year. Houses near large trees, or below a roof carrying a lot of moss, sit at the more frequent end. We suggest an interval once we have seen how much came out of each run.
Yes. A leaking joint, a cracked length or a run without enough fall can look like a blockage from the ground. If clearing will not solve it, we say so and explain what kind of repair it needs.
Not always. If every run can be reached from outside without going through a locked gate, there is no need to be in. We agree the arrangements with you when the work is booked.
