Slate Roof Moss Removal and Cleaning in Marlow
Slate roof moss removal and cleaning in Marlow: a drone survey, scaffold access, carefully controlled low-pressure cleaning and Chiltern EverGuard™.
Driveway Cleaning · Oxfordshire
Many Henley-on-Thames homes sit behind long entrances shaded by mature trees, where leaves, pollen and damp settle into the paving. We set the method to each surface, re-sand block paving with Chiltern Polymeric Sand and finish with Chiltern EverGuard™.

How we start
The open centre of a driveway, the shaded edge beside a hedge, the turning circle and the strip outside the garage all age at different rates. At the free site visit we walk the whole entrance, identify each material and note where growth, staining and joint loss are concentrated, then explain the method we recommend for each part.

Henley entrances
Henley-on-Thames sits beside the river with the wooded Chiltern hills rising behind it, and its greener residential roads are lined with established trees and hedges. That planting is much of the town's appeal, but it shades driveways for long parts of the day and drops leaves, seed and pollen across them through the year. Where a surface stays damp, algae and moss follow.
Frontages vary widely. Homes near the historic centre often have compact approaches, while larger houses on the edges of town may have long drives with turning areas, parking bays and paths in a mix of block paving, gravel, resin and natural stone. Around older properties, those surfaces often meet aged brick, stone steps and walls that need gentler handling than the drive itself.
Under the trees
Tree cover slows drying. After rain the open middle of a drive may dry within the day, while the edge beneath a hedge or canopy stays wet, gathers leaf litter and gives algae and moss what they need. The result is a two-toned entrance: lighter in the wheel tracks, dark and green along the margins and around the gateway.
Leaves left to break down also mark the surface, and the debris packs into the joints of block paving, where seeds take root. We treat the margins as part of the job rather than an afterthought, so the finished entrance reads as one even surface instead of a clean stripe down the middle.
Block paving
On block paving, the clean takes out the old jointing sand along with the dirt and weeds. Leaving those gaps open would undo much of the benefit, so refilling them is part of the restoration rather than an optional extra. We use Chiltern Polymeric Sand instead of conventional kiln-dried sand because it helps stabilise the paving and gives better protection against weed growth, joint washout and freeze-thaw damage.
Mixed materials
Larger entrances often combine materials, and we do not carry one method from the drive onto everything around it. Resin-bound surfacing is cleaned at low pressure using methods chosen for the system. Natural stone, whether sandstone, limestone, granite or slate, is assessed before the method and pressure are settled. Tarmac is cleaned with the pressure held to what it needs, and gravel is treated for weeds, moss and organic debris and left tidy.
Heated water is used where the material tolerates it. On every surface we work to the lowest pressure and the least chemical that will achieve the result, even when that takes a further application.
Selling a home
The drive takes up much of the first view of a house, so it matters when a property is going on the market. A basic jet wash can leave block paving bright for a short while with its joints standing empty. Re-sanding and finishing the surface properly gives the frontage a completed look that holds up beyond the listing photographs.
If presentation before a sale is your priority, tell us at the site visit and we will focus the recommendation on the areas that make the most visible difference.
Step by step
The order of work is the same on every entrance. The method inside each stage is set by what we found at the site visit.
At the free site visit we identify each surface, check the joints, edges and drainage, and note shade, staining and anything already loose or uneven before recommending a method.
You receive our recommendation and a clear quotation setting out which surfaces will be cleaned, how each one will be treated and what is included, so nothing is left to guesswork.
The drive is cleaned evenly at the pressure set for each material, with heated water where it suits, removing algae, moss, weeds and grime from the surface and the joints.
Once dry, block paving is compacted with a vibrating plate compactor and every joint is refilled with Chiltern Polymeric Sand. Other surfaces receive the finishing steps relevant to them.
Every driveway is finished with Chiltern EverGuard™ to help reduce regrowth. We then talk you through what was done and how the surface is likely to weather under its trees.
Worth knowing
Cleaning brings back colour and definition and removes established growth, but it is not a repair. We will tell you at the site visit what we expect to lift and what is likely to stay, so the result matches what was agreed.
Why us
The material sets the method. Block paving, resin, stone, tarmac and gravel on the same frontage are each handled on their own terms.
Every block-paved driveway is compacted and re-sanded with Chiltern Polymeric Sand, so the joints are left full rather than washed out.
Applied to every driveway we restore. Protection typically lasts between 12 and 24 months, depending on shade, surface and upkeep.
Fully insured operatives who protect planting, steps and adjoining surfaces, and who leave the working area tidy when the job is done.
Nearby
We also restore driveways in the villages close to town: Shiplake and Lower Shiplake by the river, Harpsden, Rotherfield Peppard, Sonning Common and Bix. Many share the same tree-lined lanes and long entrances, so the same careful, surface-led approach applies there too.

Questions
Cleaning removes the old jointing sand along with the dirt and weeds. Once the surface is dry, we compact the paving with a vibrating plate compactor and refill every joint with Chiltern Polymeric Sand, which helps stabilise the blocks and resist weed growth and washout.
Yes. Shade and leaf fall make growth more established, but they do not stop us cleaning. We pay particular attention to the margins and joints where debris collects. Growth will return sooner there than on an open drive, which is one reason Chiltern EverGuard™ is applied at the end.
Often, to a large degree. Specialist treatment significantly reduces most oil staining. Very old marks that have soaked deep into porous paving may not lift completely, and we will say so at the site visit rather than promise otherwise.
Yes. Resin-bound surfaces are cleaned at low pressure using methods chosen for the system. If the resin is already cracked or loose, cleaning cannot rebuild it, and we explain that before any work is agreed.
Typically between 12 and 24 months. It depends on the property's location, the shade and trees around it, the surface and how it is looked after. A drive beneath a canopy usually sits towards the shorter end of that range.
No, not with the right care. Adjoining brick, stone steps and planting are considered before we start and protected or rinsed as needed. At each boundary we set the method to suit the more delicate surface, not the drive.
Yes. Where the existing sealer has started to fade, dull or wear away, we offer a resealing service. The concrete is cleaned first, with care taken over its decorative colour and finish.
