Driveway Cleaning · Berkshire
Twyford's post-war estates and older village streets give it a wide range of front drives, many with a garage at the end. We assess each surface, clean it at the pressure it can take and finish with Chiltern EverGuard™.

Our approach
The front edge of a drive and the threshold of the garage are where the dirt is heaviest and the work most exacting. Between them sits the open parking area, which usually needs less. Planning the clean around those two ends, rather than treating the whole drive alike, gives an even result without overworking any part of it.

Twyford homes
Twyford was an agricultural village before the railway arrived in the nineteenth century, and it grew around the station afterwards. After the Second World War, new residential estates were built to the north and south of the centre, and conservation areas now cover the older parts of the village and the station area.
That history shows in the drives. Estate homes typically have a block-paved or concrete drive leading to a garage, some with a noticeable slope towards the road or the house. Older properties nearer the centre may have tarmac or a setts apron, and newer homes have added pale block paving and porcelain. Each brings its own pattern of wear and staining.
The road edge
The first metre or two of a drive takes fine road dust, splash from passing traffic and grit carried in on tyres. Every vehicle crosses it, so the dirt there is compacted rather than resting on the surface, and it can look markedly darker than the parking space behind it.
We clean the full transition from the road edge to the main drive, keeping the work to the private surface agreed, so the restored drive does not start with a grubby strip.
Garage thresholds
Directly outside a garage, paving, a threshold strip, the door's bottom seal and often a channel drain sit within a short distance of each other. Rain and sweeping rarely clear this line, so fine dirt builds up along it.
It takes more control than the open drive. We clean right up to the door without driving water into the garage or against the seal, and treat the drain as its own detail, clearing accessible silt from the grate rather than leaving it there.
Stains
Pale block paving and porcelain show small dark organic spots long before the drive looks generally dirty. Some is surface grime that lifts readily, while more established spotting needs additional treatment where the material allows.
Rust is different again. Plant stands, gates, trailers and garden furniture leave orange or brown marks after long contact with moisture, and that staining reacts with the surface rather than sitting on it. Washing alone rarely moves it, so we assess each mark and use a targeted treatment where it is compatible with the paving, explaining beforehand what is likely to remain.
Slopes
On a drive with a noticeable fall, rinse water, loosened soil and organic matter all head for the lowest edge. Work in the wrong order and dirt from the top is washed back across sections that are already clean. We plan the working direction around the fall, so released material is controlled and collected.
Existing drainage routes are respected, but a clean will not correct poor falls or a sub-base that has failed. If water ponds or blocks have sunk, we say so and keep that separate from the cleaning.
Step by step
Most estate drives follow the same five stages. The pressures, treatments and order of working are set at the site visit.
We identify every surface, check the joints, slope, threshold and drains, and look at any rust or speckling so we can explain what is likely to lift.
Cars, bins and movable items are cleared where needed, and garage doors, walls and neighbouring surfaces are considered before cleaning begins.
The drive is cleaned from the top down at the lowest pressure that works, with the road edge and the garage threshold given extra attention.
Rust, oil and established speckling are treated individually where the material allows, rather than with repeated passes at higher pressure.
Block paving is compacted and refilled with Chiltern Polymeric Sand, then the whole drive is finished with the Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment.
Before you book
Taking off a thick layer of grime can expose differences that it used to hide: old repairs, faded blocks, patched tarmac and natural colour variation.
None of those justify harsher cleaning. We aim for a significant improvement while protecting the sound paving underneath, and we tell you at the site visit which rust or oil marks may fade rather than disappear.
Why us
The road edge and the garage threshold are cleaned with the same care as the open drive, so the finish is consistent end to end.
Rust, oil and speckling are identified before work starts, and we tell you plainly which marks are likely to remain.
Block paving is compacted with a vibrating plate compactor and every joint refilled with Chiltern Polymeric Sand as standard.
Fully insured operatives work to a clear quotation agreed beforehand and leave the drive and its surroundings tidy.

We also restore driveways in the villages close by, including Charvil, Ruscombe, Hurst, Wargrave, Hare Hatch and Sonning. Their estates and village streets share much the same mix of drives.

Questions
Every vehicle crosses it, and it collects road dust and splash as well as tyre grit. That leaves a heavier, more compacted film than the parking space further in, so it needs thorough, even cleaning rather than spot work.
Yes. We clean the threshold carefully, keeping water out of the garage and pressure off the door seal, and clear accessible silt from any channel drain in front of it.
Not usually on its own. Rust reacts with the surface, so it often needs a targeted treatment that is compatible with the paving. We assess each mark first and tell you how much improvement is realistic.
Often, yes. Surface speckling generally lifts well, while more established organic spotting needs additional treatment and may fade rather than vanish. We will point out which is which at the site visit.
Yes. We work from the top down so that dirty water and loosened debris are not washed back over finished areas, and we manage the run-off at the bottom of the slope.
Yes. The clean removes the old jointing sand, so once the paving is dry it is compacted and every joint is refilled with Chiltern Polymeric Sand, which helps keep weeds and washout at bay.
Typically between 12 and 24 months, depending on where the drive is, what grows around it, the surface and how it is maintained. An open estate drive in full sun usually sits towards the longer end.
