Roof Moss Removal and Cleaning in Henley-on-Thames
Roof moss removal in Henley-on-Thames from powered access: low-pressure cleaning, gutters cleared and Chiltern EverGuard™ protection on a concrete tile roof.
Roof Cleaning · Berkshire
Twyford grew from a farming village into a railway village and then outwards through post-war estates, so its roofs range widely in age. We clean around their aerials, valleys and conservatories with care, then apply Chiltern EverGuard™.

Our approach
Aerials, satellite dishes, solar panels, roof windows and the conservatory below all affect how a roof is reached and cleaned. None of them is part of the tile surface, and none should be moved, knocked or soaked to make cleaning easier. We note every one at a free site visit and plan the work around them.

Twyford roofs
Twyford was a farming settlement until the railway arrived in the nineteenth century, and growth followed around the station. After the Second World War, new residential estates spread to the north and south. Conservation areas now cover the old village and the station area, where a number of listed buildings sit among later houses.
That staged growth shows on the roofs. Older buildings near the centre carry traditional coverings, while the post-war and later estates are largely concrete tile, often with an aerial on the ridge and a conservatory or extension at the back. Mature gardens and the damp of the Loddon valley keep plenty of those slopes slow to dry.
Interlocking tiles
On interlocking concrete tiles, moss often begins where neighbouring tiles meet. The side-laps stay sheltered and damp even when the tile faces dry, and fine lines of growth form along them long before the familiar cushions appear. Left alone, those lines widen and join up across several courses.
Clearing them means following the tile layout rather than skimming the faces. Moss is lifted out of the joints by hand, and any cleaning is kept low so the interlocks are not forced and the tiles are not lifted.
Fixtures
Fixtures on a roof create small sheltered patches, and birds perching on aerials add deposits below them, so these areas can look dirtier than the rest. We clean the tiles around them without moving, adjusting or putting strain on brackets, cables or mounts.
Conservatories
Many estate homes have a conservatory, an extension or a garage beneath the main roof. Glass and polycarbonate roofs cannot take weight and mark easily, so access towers are positioned to work over them, not on them, and loosened moss is caught or cleared before it can collect on the panels.
Valleys between the main roof and an extension carry water from two slopes and gather debris along their length. They are cleared by hand without disturbing liners or flashings.
Aftercare
As the last stage of every roof clean, we apply the Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment. It targets the spores and residual growth left in the surface and helps slow the return of moss and algae. Protection typically lasts between 12 and 24 months, depending on shade, location and the covering.
Treatment waits for settled, frost-free weather, so in a cold spell we do the removal first and come back for it. Towards the end of the protection period, we email to offer a free reassessment.
Step by step
The same sequence applies to every roof. On a property with fixtures and a conservatory, the planning in the first stage does most of the work.
We assess the roof, its fixtures and what lies below, using a drone where appropriate and sharing the live images so you can see the side-laps and valleys for yourself.
A written recommendation explains the method, how fixtures and lower roofs will be protected and why, set out as a defined statement of works with a clear quotation.
Operatives work from towers placed beside, never on, the conservatory or extension, removing moss from side-laps, valleys and around fixtures by hand.
The tiles are cleaned at the lowest pressure that works, or soft washed, and the Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment goes on in settled weather free of frost.
Gutters are cleared, downpipes checked and any debris taken off conservatory and lower roofs. The project lead then talks you through the result and the aftercare.
Before you decide
Grime and moss soften the contrast between original tiles and those fitted later. Once the roof is clean, a replacement tile can look brighter, darker or simply different, and that reflects the roof's maintenance history rather than an uneven clean.
Why us
Aerials, dishes, panels and cables are worked around and left exactly as they were, with any existing damage pointed out to you.
Towers and poles let us reach over conservatories and extensions, so no weight goes onto glazed or lightweight roofs below.
Moss is cleared from the side-laps and valleys where it starts, not only from the tile faces you can see from the garden.
Fully insured operatives, a pre-work briefing so you know what to expect, and a project lead who hands the roof back to you in person.
Nearby
We also look after roofs in Charvil, Ruscombe and Hurst, in Wargrave and Hare Hatch to the north, and in Sonning towards Reading. Housing varies from village to village, so each roof is assessed in person first.

Questions
Yes, where access allows. The tiles around them are cleaned by hand and at low pressure, and the fixtures themselves are not moved, adjusted or used for support. Any loose bracket we notice is pointed out to you.
No. Access towers are set up to work over a conservatory, never on it, because glazed and polycarbonate roofs cannot take weight. Moss that falls towards it is cleared away before we finish.
The side-laps between interlocking tiles stay sheltered and damp after the faces have dried, so moss starts there in narrow lines. Over time those lines widen and join up into the patches you notice from the ground.
Yes, the accessible tiles around the array. Panels, mounts and cabling are left undisturbed, and anything electrical remains a matter for a qualified installer to look at.
They are usually replacements fitted during earlier repairs. Dirt had hidden the contrast with the original tiles; once both are clean, the difference in age and batch becomes visible.
Yes. Valleys collect debris from two slopes, so they are cleared by hand along their length, and the gutters and downpipes are cleared and checked once the roof is finished.
Yes, eventually. The Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment helps reduce regrowth, typically for between 12 and 24 months, but spores keep arriving on the wind. We email as that period ends and offer a free reassessment.
