Solar Panel Cleaning · Berkshire
Twyford grew in stages, from farming village to railway stop to post-war estates, and its roofs reflect each one. Whatever the house, we clean its solar panels with de-ionised water and a soft brush, worked from the ground.

Different eras
An array on a house by the station, one on a post-war semi and one on a recent build can look identical from the street. Reaching them is another matter. Garden size, side access, extensions and the pitch all decide where the operative stands, and that is what we work out first.

Twyford homes
Before the railway arrived in the nineteenth century, Twyford was mainly an agricultural settlement. The station brought new building around it, and after the Second World War residential estates spread to the north and south. The village now has conservation areas around its centre and station, alongside a number of listed buildings.
Each stage left its own roofs. Older properties near the centre carry clay tile and slate, the post-war estates tend towards concrete tiles and simpler shapes, and later homes add extensions and conservatories. Solar panels sit across all of them, and mature gardens in the older parts add pollen and leaf litter to the glass.
Reaching the array
Most domestic arrays face the back garden, so the route to them usually runs through a side gate or along a shared rear path. The hose has to follow that route, and the operative needs firm, level ground with a clear line up to the panels.
A single-storey extension can help or hinder. Often it simply pushes the standing spot further from the array. At the site visit we work out where the pole can reach every panel and tell you plainly if any part cannot be cleaned safely from the ground.
Glass roofs
Many homes in the village have added a conservatory or lean-to glass roof, and these gather the same pollen, droppings and leaf litter as solar panels. They do not generate anything, but the method suits them: de-ionised water and a soft brush on a pole, with nobody leaning on the roof.
Glass roofs are cleaned from outside, glazing bars and the lower edge included. Where both a solar array and a conservatory need doing, they can be cleaned on the same visit and covered by one quotation.
Roadside grime
Properties close to the busier roads through the village tend to collect a greyer, slightly greasy film than those on quiet streets. It builds slowly and evenly, so it is easy to miss until a clean panel sits beside a dirty one.
That film responds to the same approach as pollen: wetting with de-ionised water, steady brushing and a thorough pure-water rinse. It takes a little longer than dust alone, but there is still no need for detergent, and none is used.
Step by step
Access is settled first, because on a busy village plot it shapes everything else. The cleaning itself follows the same order every time.
At the free site visit we check the panels, frames and seals and work out where the operative will stand and how the hose reaches that spot.
You receive a clear quotation setting out which panels and any glass roofs are included, and how each of them will be reached.
On the day, a soft brush fed with de-ionised water works across each panel, lifting pollen, droppings and road grime without detergent.
The bottom frames and corners are cleared of moss and litter, then the whole array is rinsed with pure water and left to dry clear.
Before leaving we show you the finished panels from the garden and mention anything we spotted about fixings, seals or the roof around them.
Plain facts
Most arrays in the village can be cleaned from the ground. A few cannot, usually because the panels are set high on a tall house with no safe standing spot, or behind a deep extension. We would rather tell you that at the visit than clean half an array.
Why us
Standing spots, hose routes and gates are agreed at the site visit, so there is no guesswork on your doorstep.
Solar arrays and conservatory roofs are cleaned with the same pure water and soft brush, on one visit if you wish.
No detergents or chemicals are used, so only clean water and lifted dirt run off into gutters and gardens.
Fully insured operatives who stay off panels, tiles and glass roofs, and who leave the garden as they found it.
Nearby
We also clean arrays in Charvil, Ruscombe, Hurst and Wargrave, in Sonning, and out towards Hare Hatch. Gardens and access vary from one village to the next, so each visit starts the same way.

Questions
Yes, in most cases. The hose can run through a gate and along a path, and the pole does the reaching from the garden. We check the route and the standing spot at the site visit.
Yes. Conservatory and glass roofs are cleaned with the same de-ionised water and soft brush, from outside and without anyone leaning on the roof. They can be done on the same visit as your panels.
We tell you at the site visit. Most domestic arrays are within reach of a water-fed pole, but very tall houses or panels set far back behind an extension sometimes are not, and we will not improvise unsafe access.
Yes, with the right brush and water. A soft-bristled head fed with de-ionised water floats dirt off rather than grinding it in. Hard brushes, scrapers, household cleaners and pressure washers are what put panels at risk, and we use none of them.
Position, mostly. Panels near a busier road gather traffic grime, those under trees collect pollen and sap, and shallow pitches shed dirt less readily. Two similar arrays in the same village can soil at very different rates.
Yes. Flat-plate and evacuated-tube solar thermal panels are washed with the same de-ionised water, taking extra care around the manifolds and seals where the pipework connects.
