Solar Panel Cleaning · Berkshire
Hurley sits between the Thames and open farmland, and wind off the fields carries dust and pollen onto every exposed surface. We clean roof, outbuilding and ground-mounted arrays with de-ionised water and a soft brush, nothing more.

Country arrays
On larger country properties, panels turn up in more places than the house roof: on a barn or stable, along a garage, or in rows on frames in a paddock. The water and the brush stay the same wherever they are. What changes is the reach, the height and how much of each panel we can work at close quarters.

Hurley's setting
Hurley is a small village on the Thames, with Hurley Bottom and Burchetts Green nearby and open countryside running up from the river. Homes range from period cottages and village properties to riverside houses and larger country homes reached along private lanes.
That mix of water and farmland affects anything left outdoors. Damp air from the river keeps surfaces wet, and in dry, windy weather fine dust and pollen blow in off the fields. On solar glass the two combine: dust settles in dry spells, then a light shower binds it into a dull film that the next rain only partly moves.
Field dust
Fields being worked, cut or harvested put fine soil and plant dust into the air, and a breeze carries it some distance. On a panel it settles as a pale layer that looks harmless when dry. Add a little moisture and it clumps, streaks and dries back in place, often heaviest along the lower edge.
De-ionised water loosens it readily and the soft brush lifts it without scratching, because the grit is floated off rather than ground in. That is also why we never dry-brush or wipe a dusty panel.
Ground and outbuildings
A ground-mounted array is the easiest kind to clean thoroughly: every panel can be brushed and rinsed at close range, frames and lower edges included. The care needed is around the base, where grass and weeds meet the mounting legs, and where cables run between the rows.
Panels on stables, barns and garages vary more. Some outbuilding roofs are low but fragile, such as old sheeting or worn tiles, and are no safer to stand on than a house roof. We reach them with the pole from the ground, just as we would the main house.
Cobwebs
In the countryside, spiders and insects make good use of the sheltered lip of a panel frame and the gaps between panels. Their webs catch pollen, dust and tiny seeds that would otherwise blow away, and the frame edges end up looking grey and furred even when the glass is fairly clear.
We brush webs and the debris they hold from every frame we can reach, then rinse. Webs deep under the array, around the rails and cabling, are left alone, because clearing them would mean disturbing the installation.
How we work
Each group of panels is assessed separately. A paddock array, a barn roof and the house roof may each be reached differently, but the cleaning follows one order.
We check each group of panels for frames, seals, pitch and condition, and agree how each will be reached, whether from the ground beside it or by pole.
Panels are wetted with de-ionised water first so field dust and pollen loosen and lift, rather than being dragged across the glass by the brush.
The soft brush works over each panel and along the frame edges, taking off film, droppings, webs and the debris caught in them.
A pure-water rinse leaves the glass to dry by itself without spotting, so nothing needs wiping, whether the day is hot or dusty.
We go round each array with you, pointing out anything we noticed about the frames, seals and fixings, or the ground beneath a paddock array.
Worth knowing
A clean leaves every reachable panel clear, but the fields will put dust back into the air at the next busy spell, and pollen arrives each spring. Ground arrays beside a track or field edge tend to need cleaning more often than roof arrays.
Why us
House roof, outbuilding or paddock, every group of panels is assessed at the visit and cleaned with the same care.
De-ionised water and a soft brush. Nothing chemical goes onto your panels, your paddock or the ground beside the river.
Our base is in Marlow, a short way downstream, so we know how the river and the surrounding farmland shape surfaces here.
Fully insured operatives, no foot traffic on panels or fragile outbuilding roofs, and a clear handover when we finish.
Nearby
We also work in Hurley Bottom and Burchetts Green, along the river at Medmenham and Bisham, and upstream towards Remenham. Many properties there share the same mix of river damp and open fields.

Questions
Yes. Ground arrays are the most accessible kind, so every panel is brushed and rinsed at close range, frames and lower edges included. We take care around the mounting legs and any cables running between the rows.
Yes, where they can be reached safely. Outbuilding roofs are often older or more fragile than the house roof, so we use the pole from the ground rather than climbing onto them. The access is agreed at the site visit.
Wind carries fine dust from nearby fields and tracks, and it settles on the glass while the weather stays dry. Light rain then binds it into a film instead of washing it off. De-ionised water and a soft brush remove it.
Mostly they are untidy rather than harmful, but they trap dust and pollen along the frames and make the edges look grey. We brush away the webs we can reach without disturbing cabling or mounting rails.
Not by any amount we can promise. Cleaning removes dust and droppings that shade the glass, but generation depends on the season, the weather, the array's position and its equipment. We leave output figures to your installer and your monitoring.
Yes. We use de-ionised water and nothing else, so the runoff is water and the dust it washed off. No detergent or chemical goes onto the panels or the ground beneath them.
