Solar Panel Cleaning · Berkshire
Bisham is just across the Thames from our base in Marlow, beneath the wooded slopes that rise behind the village. We clean its solar panels with de-ionised water and a soft brush, with the access planned before we arrive.

Before the day
Washing panels with a water-fed pole is straightforward once the operative is in the right place. Getting there is the part that needs thought: where to park, how the hose reaches the garden, which spot gives a safe reach to every panel. In a village of narrow lanes and riverside plots, we settle all of that at the site visit.

Bisham's setting
Bisham sits on the Berkshire bank of the Thames, opposite Marlow, with wooded slopes climbing behind it. Its homes range from village cottages and character properties to larger houses near the river, many of them reached along narrow lanes or shared private drives.
The woods and mature gardens shape how roofs weather here. Shade keeps slopes damp after rain, and each autumn brings a heavy drop of leaves, seed cases and twigs. Panels catch their share: leaves lodge against the bottom frames and between the panels, then break down into a dark, damp mat that holds dirt and moisture.
Getting there
Water-fed cleaning needs a hose running all the way to the pole, and on some properties here the array is a long way from where a vehicle can stop. A narrow lane, a shared drive or a gate that only opens one way all change the plan.
At the site visit we walk the route, check what the hose will cross and agree where we can park without blocking neighbours. That way the day itself is quiet and tidy, and the hose never ends up across a flower bed it should have gone round.
Autumn
Under wooded slopes, autumn leaves arrive on the panels in quantity. Most slide off a steep array, but some catch on the bottom frame or in the gaps, and wet leaves pressed against glass leave brown tannin stains as they break down.
We clear the caught litter with the brush, wash the frames and glass with de-ionised water and rinse the stains away. Leaves wedged deep beneath the array are noted rather than dug out, because we do not lift panels or loosen the mounting to reach them.
Pure water
Rinse water from a roof this close to the river does not have far to travel. Our solar cleaning uses de-ionised water and a soft brush alone, so the only things washed off the array are water and the dirt it carried.
Taking the minerals out of the water is what makes that possible. Tap water dries on glass as white spots, which is why household window cleaning reaches for detergent. De-ionised water dries clear, so no product is needed at any stage of the clean.
On the day
The first stage is the visit itself. Everything after it follows the plan agreed there, so there are no surprises on the day.
We walk the route from lane to array, look at the panels, frames and seals, and decide where the operative will stand and how the hose will run.
On the day we park where agreed, run the hose along the planned route and keep gates, paths and planting clear while we work.
A soft brush on the water-fed pole works across each panel, loosening pollen, droppings and leaf stains with de-ionised water alone.
Leaves, seed cases and dark leaf mulch are cleared from the bottom frames, the corners and any reachable gaps between the panels.
A last rinse leaves the glass to dry clear. We roll up the hose, check the ground below and tell you anything worth knowing about the array.
Know the limits
A clean takes the litter, stains and film off the panels, but the woods will drop another season's leaves next autumn. Arrays under or close to trees usually benefit most from a clean once the leaves are down.
Why us
Our base in Marlow is just across the river, so Bisham is about as local as our work gets.
Parking, hose routes and standing positions are agreed at the site visit, not worked out in your lane on the morning.
De-ionised water does the work. No detergent or chemical comes off your roof, into the garden or towards the Thames.
Fully insured operatives who keep off the panels and the tiles, cleaning from the ground wherever the pole can reach.
Nearby
Across the bridge we work throughout Marlow and Little Marlow, and along the river in Hurley, Medmenham and Cookham, with Pinkneys Green just to the south. The lanes and the trees differ; the care does not.

Questions
Usually, yes. The hose can run a good distance from where we park, and the pole does the reaching. We check the route, parking and standing positions at the site visit so the plan is clear before we arrive.
They are usually leaf stains. Wet leaves lying against the glass release tannins as they break down. Most lift with de-ionised water and a soft brush; older, deeper stains may fade rather than disappear in a single clean.
No. Everything is done from outside. We need access to the garden or wherever the array can be reached, and to know about gates, pets and anywhere the hose should avoid.
No. Our Solar Panel Cleaning uses de-ionised water and a soft brush only. Nothing is sprayed on the panels or the roof, so the rinse water is just water and the dirt it lifted.
Usually after, if you only clean once a year under trees. A late-autumn clean clears the leaves and stains the season left behind. Arrays that also gather heavy spring pollen may suit a second clean earlier in the year.
Only if that has been agreed as separate work. A solar visit covers the panels and their frames. Gutters below wooded slopes often need clearing too, and we can look at them during the same site visit.
