Slate Roof Moss Removal and Cleaning in Marlow
Slate roof moss removal and cleaning in Marlow: a drone survey, scaffold access, carefully controlled low-pressure cleaning and Chiltern EverGuard™.
Soft Wash Treatment · Berkshire
Bisham faces Marlow across the Thames, under wooded slopes that keep its walls damp. Working this close to the river, we keep the treatment measured, the contact time watched and the rinse water directed away from the bank and borders.

Proportion
Soft washing is not improved by a stronger mix or by leaving it on longer than it needs. The surface, the type of growth, the weather on the day and what lies beside the wall all decide how a treatment should be used. With the river so close, getting that balance right matters more here than almost anywhere.

Bisham properties
Bisham sits on the Berkshire bank of the Thames, directly across from Marlow, with wooded slopes rising behind the village. Its homes range from village cottages and character properties to larger residences, several of them reached along narrow private lanes.
Between the river and the trees, walls here stay damp well after rain, so a north-facing elevation can turn green while the opposite side of the same house still looks fine. Older stone and brick in the village are porous and soften with age, and they respond far better to a soft wash than to water forced into the surface.
Near the river
Whatever goes onto a wall comes back down it. On a property close to the Thames, we plan where that water will go before we start: rinse water is contained and directed away from the bank and from planting, rather than left to find its own route across a lawn.
The treatment itself is chosen for the surface rather than for strength, and applied in a controlled way so there is no excess to deal with afterwards. Watching the wall during the contact time is part of the job, not a pause in it.
Patterns of growth
Growth does not always show as obvious patches. On some walls it is a broad green cast that shifts the tone of a whole elevation; on others it gathers into dark spots, streaks or crusty lichen. Both can appear on the same wall.
Lichen is usually slower to respond than a light algae film. Rather than forcing it off with pressure, we let the treatment work and explain where improvement may continue for a while after we have gone. The rest of the wall is not dosed to suit its worst corner.
Fixtures
Outside lights, cameras, vents, house numbers and cable runs all interrupt a wall and leave edges where dirt collects. They are also made of materials that should not receive unnecessary treatment. We note them during preparation and work around them, so the wall is cleaned without the fittings being treated as part of it.
Redecorating
Removing growth makes the real state of a coating far easier to judge, and a clean wall is often the first stage before redecoration. It is not the whole preparation, though. Drying time, repairs and priming depend on the paint system, and those belong to the decorator's specification.
We are happy to time a soft wash around a planned repaint, and will tell you what we noticed in the paint and render once the growth has gone.
The sequence
Each stage is set for the wall in front of us. The order in which they happen stays the same.
We identify the wall material, the coating, the pattern of growth and the fixtures, and work out where water from the job will drain, including how close the river and borders are.
Windows, metalwork, lights, planting and paving are protected or managed, and we set out how rinse water will be directed away from the bank and beds.
A suitable solution is applied at low pressure, with its strength and coverage matched to the surface and the growth on it.
The treatment is left to act while the wall and neighbouring materials are observed, rather than left unattended or topped up without reason.
The wall is rinsed in a controlled way and the Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment is applied to the clean surface, followed by a walk-round of the result with you.
Honest limits
Once algae and organic staining are reduced, variations in paint, render repairs and natural weathering can stand out more than before. Cleaning did not create them; it uncovered them.
Why us
Our base is in Marlow, on the other side of the river, so Bisham's damp, wooded setting is something we know well.
Treatment strength and contact time are set for the surface and monitored throughout, which keeps the job proportionate and the surroundings protected.
Narrow private lanes and shared approaches are checked at the site visit, so parking, hose runs and equipment are settled before the day.
Fully insured operatives, a managed rinse and a tidy site, with a clear account of what was done before we leave.
Nearby
From Bisham we also cover Hurley and Medmenham upstream, Cookham and Cookham Dean downstream, and Pinkneys Green inland towards Maidenhead. Each has its own mix of riverside and village homes, and each property is assessed on its own.

Questions
Yes, on suitable surfaces. Algae usually responds quickly; established lichen holds on harder and can carry on fading after the visit. We would rather let the treatment work than strip lichen off with pressure.
Yes, and we plan for it. Rinse water is contained and directed away from the bank and from planting, the treatment is chosen for the surface rather than strength, and application is controlled so there is little excess to manage.
They are protected or worked around during preparation rather than treated as part of the wall. We note every fitting at the site visit, so nothing is overlooked on the day.
No, not on its own. It removes growth and shows the true state of the coating, but repairs, drying and priming depend on the paint system and on the decorator's specification.
Usually, yes. Access is the practical question rather than the cleaning: where we can park, how far hoses need to run and what will fit. We check all of it at the site visit.
Typically between 12 and 24 months, depending on location, surface and upkeep. A shaded, north-facing wall close to the river and the trees is likely to sit towards the shorter end of that range.
No. It can make a significant improvement where the staining is caused by growth, but natural ageing, earlier repairs, faded coatings and defects within the render itself all remain.
