Patio Cleaning · Berkshire
Bisham sits on the Thames just across the bridge from our Marlow base, below wooded slopes that keep its gardens damp. Older patios here can have settled slabs and worn joints, so we assess slabs, joints and stains before choosing a method.

Our approach
The worn path from the lawn, the ring where a pot stood, the dip that holds a puddle and the joint that has opened up all say something about a patio. Reading those signs at a free site visit is how we decide what needs cleaning, what needs treating and what needs a repair instead.

Bisham gardens
Bisham lies on the south bank of the Thames, facing Marlow across the river, with Bisham Woods on the rising ground behind it. Between the water and the trees, gardens here stay damp and shaded for much of the year, and paving dries slowly after rain.
The village mixes character properties and cottages with larger homes on the approach to Marlow, and its patios vary just as much. Natural stone, concrete flags and porcelain all appear, often alongside older paving that has settled over time. Because the river is so close, where the cleaning water ends up is part of every job we plan here.
Settled slabs
Over the years individual slabs can sink slightly, leaving shallow dips that hold water after rain. Those low points become the patio's wettest spots, collecting fine sediment and the first algae of the season.
Cleaning removes the growth and silt from them, but it cannot change the level of the paving. If water keeps pooling, that area will soil again sooner than the rest, and relaying the slab is a job for a landscaper. We point out low spots at the site visit so you know which part of the result depends on the paving itself.
Joints
Jointing does not age evenly. Near doors and steps it tends to suffer physical wear, while quieter joints along the garden edge fill with moss and soil. Sound joints and loose, weathered mortar need different handling, so we check them before cleaning rather than discovering the difference with a jet.
Existing gaps are not blasted out as though they were dirt. Where sand jointing has washed away, we re-sand it after cleaning; where mortar has failed, we note it as a repair.
Local marks
Not every mark on a patio is algae. Several common ones need their own assessment before anything is applied, because a product that suits one stain or one stone can harm another.
The river
With the Thames so close, rinse water from a patio here cannot simply be left to find its own way downhill. We contain and direct it away from the bank and from planting, and we choose treatments appropriate to the surface rather than the strongest product available.
Doors, conservatory glazing and low retaining walls get the same thought: the cleaning direction is set so dirty spray moves away from the house and its glass rather than onto it.
Step by step
Every patio we clean follows these stages. The methods inside them are chosen once we have seen the paving, its joints and its surroundings.
We identify the material and look at settled slabs, joint condition, local stains, adjoining walls and glazing, and where water from the patio naturally drains.
Movable items and loose debris are cleared, planting is covered, and the direction of work is set so spray and run-off move away from the house and the river.
The patio is worked in controlled sections at a pressure suited to its texture, porosity and condition, with extra care wherever joints are loose.
Black spot receives a specialist application, and rust, grease or other marks are treated only where a suitable product exists for that surface.
Washed-out joints are re-sanded where needed, and the Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment is applied to the clean paving to help reduce how quickly growth returns.
Honest limits
Once years of dirt are gone, old repairs, natural colour variation and signs of age can become clearer. Those belong to the paving. We aim for a cleaner, safer, more usable surface, and we set out what is likely to remain before work begins.
Why us
We are based in Marlow, a short drive over the bridge, so this damp, wooded riverside setting is one we know at first hand.
Run-off is contained and directed away from the bank and planting, with treatments chosen for the surface rather than for strength.
Algae, black spot, rust, grease and tracked soil are told apart before anything is applied, so the right treatment goes to the right stain.
Our fully insured operatives finish each patio with the Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment, which typically protects for between 12 and 24 months.
Nearby
Nearby, we clean patios in Marlow across the bridge, Hurley and Medmenham upstream, Cookham and Cookham Dean to the east, and Pinkneys Green to the south. The same careful approach to paving and run-off applies in each.

Questions
Usually because a slab or two has settled and formed a shallow dip. Cleaning clears the algae and silt that collect there, but it cannot change the level, so the area may soil again sooner. Relaying the slab is a separate job.
Often they can be reduced. The right product depends on the paving, because not every stain remover is safe on every stone or concrete. Deep rust may only fade, and we would rather say so than risk marking the slab.
We plan it before we start. Rinse water is contained and directed away from the bank and away from planting, and the treatments we use are chosen for the surface rather than for strength. Nothing is left to drain where it likes.
We check them before cleaning and keep the pressure controlled around them. Missing or weak jointing is not contamination, so it is not blasted out. Sand joints are re-sanded afterwards where needed, and failed mortar is noted as a repair.
Yes. The cleaning direction is set so dirty spray and loosened material move away from doors and glazing rather than onto them, and thresholds are finished carefully so water is not driven towards the house.
No, and it should not. Natural variation in the stone, old repairs, sheltered patches and long-standing stains can remain once the removable dirt has gone. The aim is a clean patio that still looks like itself.
