Patio Cleaning · Berkshire
Hurley sits between the Thames and open farmland, so its patios gather soil, grass and field debris as well as algae. We clean riven stone, lawn margins and curved borders carefully, then apply Chiltern EverGuard™.

Our approach
A patio on the edge of farmland collects more than algae. Soil comes in from the lawn and beds, grass cuttings blow across it, and leaves and seed arrive on the wind. At a free site visit we look at what has built up where, then explain how we would clean each part without disturbing the garden around it.

Hurley gardens
Hurley is a small Thames-side village with open countryside reaching up to it, and nearby Hurley Bottom and Burchetts Green share the same rural setting. Damp air comes off the river while wind carries organic debris off the surrounding fields, so paving here tends to green up sooner than the same stone in a sheltered suburban street.
Properties range from period cottages and village homes to larger country houses reached along narrow private lanes. Gardens are often generous, with lawns running up to the paving, curved borders, garden steps and outbuildings, and the patio is usually the hard edge where all of that meets.
The lawn edge
Grass cuttings, damp soil and plant fragments drift onto the slabs nearest the lawn. Those margins are walked on less than the centre, so organic growth settles along them and forms a dark band that frames the whole patio.
We clean that boundary carefully so the contamination is removed without stripping the turf edge beside it. Leaving it in place would make the rest of the clean look half finished, however good the main paving looks.
Riven stone
Riven and textured paving gives grip and character, but its ridges and hollows hold fine garden soil. Once that dries into the surface, a rinse leaves the stone looking dull and flat.
Lifting it calls for consistent work across the texture rather than maximum pressure. On natural stone, the finish and condition decide how much mechanical action is appropriate, and the aim is to clean the face while keeping its riven character.
Borders and cuts
Patios in larger gardens are seldom simple rectangles. Curved borders, narrow infill pieces and small cut slabs put many joints into a short length of paving, and those joints collect moss and soil.
Small pieces are also easier to loosen, so they are cleaned with more control than the main field of slabs. We treat detailed borders as part of the finished patio, not an afterthought once the big slabs are done.
Pale marks
Chalky or pale patches on some paving come from minerals working out of the material or its bedding, not from ordinary grime. They often become more obvious once darker algae has been cleaned from around them.
We identify these at the site visit. They do not respond to repeated cleaning, and attacking them with pressure only puts the surface at risk, so we explain what can reasonably be done and what is likely to remain.
How it works
We use the same order of work on every patio. The detail changes with the stone, the garden around it and how easy it is to reach.
We look at the paving, joints, steps and borders, note the stains and mineral marks, and check parking, turning and hose runs so nothing is left to discover on the day.
Movable items and loose debris are cleared, and lawns, planting, walls and doors are considered before any water touches the patio.
The paving is worked section by section at a pressure suited to its texture and condition, with lawn edges, curves and small cuts given the detail they need.
Black spot and lingering growth receive a specialist application, and joints that have washed out are re-sanded so the slabs stay firm.
The Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment is applied to the clean paving, then steps, edges and borders are checked so the patio reads as one finished space.
Good to know
A thorough clean recovers the paving's colour and makes it more pleasant to use. In a rural garden it will collect soil and debris again over time, and some marks belong to the stone rather than sitting on it.
Why us
Narrow lanes, parking and hose runs are checked at the site visit, so the day of the clean runs to plan.
Lawn margins, curves, small cuts and steps are finished as carefully as the main paving, so the patio looks complete.
Applied once the paving is clean, it typically protects for between 12 and 24 months, depending on shade, exposure and how the patio is looked after.
Our fully insured team is based in Marlow, a short way downstream, and riverside villages like this one are conditions we know well.
Nearby
We also clean patios in Hurley Bottom and Burchetts Green, in Medmenham upstream, Bisham and Marlow downstream, and Remenham towards Henley. Each one is assessed on its own paving and garden.

Questions
Yes. Lawn margins often carry the heaviest growth on the patio because they collect grass, soil and moisture but see little foot traffic. We clean them carefully so the turf edge beside the paving is not disturbed.
Because rain also rinses. Paving under a canopy or deep overhang misses that natural wash, so fine dust, tracked-in soil and spills build up even though algae is lighter there. It needs different attention from the open patio beside it.
Not always. Pale, chalky deposits are often mineral rather than dirt and do not respond to repeated cleaning. We identify them at the site visit and explain whether a separate treatment is worth trying on your paving.
No, it is a planning matter. At the site visit we check where we can park, how far hoses need to run and whether equipment can be carried through, so the crew arrive knowing the route.
Yes, where they are included. Treads and riser faces are both cleaned, because a dark riser makes a clean step look unfinished, and chipped nosings or weak joints are handled with care rather than force.
It varies with shade, exposure and how much debris arrives from the fields. The Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment typically protects for between 12 and 24 months, and regular sweeping of soil and leaves helps the result last.
