Block Paved Driveway Cleaning in Maidenhead
An overgrown block paved driveway in Maidenhead, cleared by hand, deep cleaned, treated with Chiltern EverGuard™, re-sanded with polymeric sand and compacted.
Driveway Cleaning · Berkshire
Many Maidenhead driveways have grown alongside the houses they serve, widened for a second car or joined to newer paving. We identify every surface in the drive, clean each one to suit it and finish with Chiltern EverGuard™.

Our approach
A driveway that reads as one continuous approach from the road is often two or three materials laid at different times. Block paving, resin, natural stone, porcelain and concrete each tolerate a different pressure and need a different finish. At a free site visit we walk the whole drive with you, mark where one surface gives way to the next and explain what each will need.

Maidenhead driveways
Maidenhead grew quickly after the Great Western Railway arrived, and its housing still shows it: Victorian and Edwardian homes, post-war family houses and contemporary developments sit within a short distance of one another. Each era came with its own idea of a front drive, from narrow strips of concrete or tarmac to wide block-paved forecourts and, more recently, resin and porcelain.
Over time, many of those drives have been altered. A frontage widened for another car, a path added to reach a side gate or a new section laid beside an extension can leave old and new paving meeting in the middle of the drive. Tree-lined roads and mature gardens add shade along one edge, so a single entrance can weather in several different ways at once.
Old beside new
Where a drive has been extended, the newer section has not had the sun, traffic and staining that the original has absorbed. Both can be cleaned thoroughly, and both will look markedly better, but the older paving may keep a slightly different tone afterwards. That difference comes from age rather than dirt.
We will not overwork the original blocks to force a match, because harsh cleaning wears the surface without changing its colour. Instead we aim for an entrance that looks evenly cared for, with genuine age differences left honestly in place, and we point them out at the site visit so nothing comes as a surprise.
Wear zones
Drives that hold two or three cars rarely weather evenly. The paving beneath a regularly parked car stays drier and more sheltered, while exposed strips between vehicles gather algae and airborne grime. Turning points can show arcs of tyre marking, and small drips near the garage leave localised staining. We treat these as separate conditions within one job.
Block paving
Deep cleaning lifts weeds, moss and the old jointing sand along with the dirt, so on block paving the job is only half done at that point. Once the paving has dried, we compact it with a vibrating plate compactor and refill every joint with Chiltern Polymeric Sand rather than conventional kiln-dried sand.
This jointing material helps stabilise the paving and gives greater protection against weed growth, erosion, joint washout and freeze-thaw damage. It cannot correct a failed sub-base or blocks that have sunk, and if we see settlement we tell you plainly that it needs a groundworker rather than a clean.
Other surfaces
Newer sections of a widened drive are often a different material from the original. Resin-bound surfaces are cleaned at low pressure with methods chosen for resin systems. Natural stone is assessed first, because sandstone, limestone and granite each hold staining differently. Porcelain cleans readily, and the skill lies in an even finish and tidy joints. Where pattern-imprinted concrete has a faded or worn sealer, we offer resealing as a separate part of the work.
Step by step
The order of work stays the same on every drive. What changes is the method used on each surface, which we set after the site visit.
We identify every material, how the sections join, the condition of the joints, any oil or rust marks and signs of settlement, then recommend a method for each part of the drive.
You receive our recommendation and a defined statement of works, setting out which areas are included, how each will be cleaned and what we expect to lift.
Grime, algae, weeds and old jointing material are removed using the lowest pressure and least chemical that will do the job, with the method changing where the material changes.
Once the block paving has dried, it is compacted with a vibrating plate compactor and every joint is refilled with Chiltern Polymeric Sand.
The whole drive is finished with our own treatment to help reduce the return of moss, algae and lichen, and we explain what to expect in the months ahead.
Before you book
A restored driveway looks markedly better, but cleaning is not resurfacing. We aim to restore the original appearance where the condition allows and explain at the site visit where it may not.
Why us
We have carried out driveway work in Maidenhead and are based upriver in Marlow, so the town's mix of housing eras is familiar to us.
Where the material changes, so does the method, rather than one pressure setting being run across the whole entrance.
Block paving is compacted and every joint refilled with Chiltern Polymeric Sand as standard on each block paving restoration.
Fully insured operatives carry out the work, and we explain what was done and what was applied before we leave.
Nearby
We also restore driveways in the places that surround Maidenhead: Furze Platt and Pinkneys Green on the north side of town, Cox Green, Holyport and Bray to the south, and Taplow across the river. The same section-by-section approach applies wherever a drive has changed over time.

Questions
Not always. Both sections will look markedly better, but older paving often keeps a different tone from sun and wear. We do not overwork it to force a match, and we show you at the site visit where a difference is likely to remain.
Yes. Cleaning removes the old jointing sand, so once the paving has dried we compact it with a vibrating plate compactor and refill every joint with Chiltern Polymeric Sand, which we use as standard on block paving.
Yes. We identify each section at the site visit and change the method where the material changes, so resin, stone or porcelain beside block paving is not cleaned at a setting meant for something tougher.
Most oil staining can be significantly reduced with specialist treatment. Very old marks that have soaked deep into porous paving may not lift completely, and we tell you which ones are likely to stay before any work begins.
Yes. Where the sealer on an imprinted drive has started to fade, dull or wear away, we offer resealing. A dull finish can be the sealer rather than dirt, so we check which it is first.
Typically between 12 and 24 months. It depends on the property's location, the trees and planting around it, the surface and how the drive is looked after. A shaded edge under mature trees usually sits towards the shorter end.
