Gutter Cleaning · Berkshire
Railway-era houses and later extensions in Maidenhead rarely have one simple gutter. Bays, valleys and back additions send water and debris to short runs and single outlets, so we clear every section, flush the downpipes and tell you what we see.

The short version
Rain falling on a roof is gathered into the gutter and led to a downpipe, often through one small opening. Leaves, moss and grit travel with the water and settle at that opening first. On a house with several roof sections, a single outlet may be taking water from far more roof than its length of gutter suggests, so it is the first place to block and the first place we look.

Maidenhead homes
The Great Western Railway drove a period of rapid Victorian and Edwardian growth here, and many streets from that time keep the bay windows, porches and rear additions of the era. Inter-war and post-war family homes followed, then modern developments, and houses of every age have since gained an extension, a garden room or a conservatory.
Every one of those additions brings its own stretch of gutter, and often a valley where the new roof meets the old. Add the mature gardens and Thames-side trees found across much of the town, and the result is a roofline where leaves and moss gather in a handful of predictable spots rather than spreading evenly along the run.
Roof geometry
A valley is the channel formed where two roof slopes meet. In heavy rain it carries water and loose material from both slopes at once and empties it into a short length of gutter at the bottom. Internal corners behave in a similar way, turning moving debris and slowing it down until it settles.
That is why one corner of a house can overflow while the rest of the gutter looks almost empty. We judge the work by where the roof deposits its load, not by the average state of the run, and we give those collection points the most time.
Bays and additions
Bay roofs, porch canopies and single-storey back additions each have their own small gutter, usually with one outlet. Some also take the discharge from an upper roof, so in a downpour they handle water from a much larger area than their own. With so little channel to spare, a partial blockage there shows quickly as a splash line on the wall or a drip over a doorway.
These lower runs are easy to forget because attention goes to the main eaves. We include every section agreed at the site visit and check how each one joins the wider system.
Out of sight
From below you see the front lip of the gutter and little else. Wet leaves and silt sit behind that lip, and moss from the roof breaks into small pieces that pack down into a dense layer along the base. None of it shows until the rain is heavy enough to fill the space that is left.
Clearing a gutter properly means emptying that settled layer along the whole run and at every outlet, rather than lifting out whatever happens to be visible on top.
The outer face
The inside of a gutter decides how well it drains. The outside decides how the roofline looks. Old overflow leaves green streaks and dark lines down uPVC gutters and fascias, and these remain after the channel has been emptied.
As part of the visit we wash the outer faces of the gutters, fascias and soffits to take off that green streaking. Plastic that has faded or yellowed with age will not change colour, and we will tell you beforehand where that applies.
Our method
The access plan is settled at the site visit, so the crew arrives knowing which runs can be done from the ground and which need something else.
We follow how each roof section drains: valleys, corners, bays, outlets and downpipes, noting splits, weeping joints and brackets that have dropped before anything is disturbed.
A pole-fed gutter vacuum, worked from the ground wherever the run allows, draws out leaves, moss and silt. Runs over glass or behind deep planting are reached from a properly footed ladder instead.
Each outlet and downpipe is flushed so we can watch water leave freely. If it backs up lower down, in a gully or buried drain, we note it rather than guess.
Brackets that have worked loose and joints that have separated are re-seated where that will hold. Cracked lengths and runs that have lost their fall are written up instead.
The outer faces are washed, the ground below is left tidy, and you receive a short written summary covering the gutters and the roof edge you cannot see from the garden.
Worth knowing
Emptying a gutter restores the space water needs, but only a sound gutter will then carry it away properly. Cleaning does not seal a joint that has failed, mend a split section or correct a run that sags between brackets.
Why us
Main eaves, bays, porches and back additions are agreed at the site visit and all cleared on the day, not just the runs that are easy to reach.
The vacuum pole keeps ladders off the fascia on most runs, and the debris goes into the machine instead of onto your borders.
You hear about the joint that weeps, the bracket that has dropped or the ridge tile that has moved, written simply and without a sales pitch.
Fully insured operatives, with access decided in advance and the owner accountable for the work carried out at every property.

We also clear gutters in the places around Maidenhead, including Bray and Holyport to the south, Cox Green, Pinkneys Green, Taplow across the river and Cookham to the north. Rooflines vary from one to the next, so each is assessed on its own.

Questions
Usually because that corner receives far more water and debris than the rest. A roof valley, a change of direction or an upper roof discharging onto a lower one can concentrate the load there, and the outlet nearby blocks first.
Yes. Bay and porch gutters are short but often busy, and we include them alongside the main eaves. Most can be reached with the vacuum pole from the ground, and the access for any that cannot is agreed at the site visit.
Yes. After the channel is clear we run water through each outlet and down the pipe to confirm it drains. A blockage further down, in a gully or underground, is noted for you rather than treated as part of the gutter clean.
Usually, but never by standing or leaning on the conservatory roof. Depending on the layout we use the vacuum pole from the side or a properly footed ladder positioned clear of the glass, decided before the day.
Not if the joint itself has failed. Clearing removes any blockage that is pushing water over the joint, and if it still drips afterwards we will re-seat it where that is a minor fix or tell you it needs repair.
Once or twice a year suits most homes. Houses beside large trees or under a mossy roof sit at the more frequent end. We suggest an interval after seeing how much came out and where it had collected.
Yes. We wash the outer faces of the gutters, fascias and soffits to take off green streaking and old overflow marks. Fading or yellowing in older plastic is part of the material and will not wash out.
