Gutter Cleaning · Buckinghamshire
Bourne End stands where the River Wye meets the Thames, and riverside damp keeps gutter debris wet long after the leaves fall. We clear the whole roofline, paying close attention to corners, junctions and extension runs, then test the downpipes.

Decay in the channel
A fresh leaf lands loose and light. Left in a damp gutter, it softens, flattens and starts to rot, binding with silt and moss into a heavy layer that sits below the rim and holds water like a sponge. By the time it shows from the ground, the channel has usually lost much of its capacity, and the outlet is often sealed over.

River and trees
Bourne End grew up on the Thames at the point where the River Wye flows in, and much of the village is low-lying. Moist air off the water keeps roofs and gutters damp, especially on the side of a house facing the river or a wooded bank. Gutters on those elevations hold their contents wet for long periods, which speeds up the breakdown of leaf litter into silt.
The housing is varied: riverside homes, family houses, character properties and newer developments, many set in mature, tree-lined gardens. A good number have been extended over the years, and extensions bring new roof sections, new gutter runs and new junctions where modern guttering joins an older system.
Where flow changes direction
A straight gutter run is fairly forgiving. Water and debris move along it towards the outlet. The trouble starts where that path changes: internal corners, angles where the roof turns, and joins between one roof section and another. Debris slows at those points and settles, and a small mound of decomposed leaves at a corner can hold back a surprising amount of water.
We pay particular attention to these places during the clear, working the vacuum into the angle rather than past it, and we check each corner again during the flush to make sure water turns it freely.
Extended homes
A rear extension, a garden room, a bay or a garage usually comes with its own short gutter and downpipe. Being lower down, these runs are easy to overlook when attention is on the main roof, yet they often sit right beside planting, fences or narrow side passages where leaves collect.
Some discharge onto a lower roof rather than straight into a drain, which only moves the water on if the lower gutter is full. Where newer guttering has been connected to an older system, the join itself can be a weak point. We include the relevant lower roofs in the assessment so the scope is clear before work begins.
Evidence below
On a dry day, a struggling gutter can look perfectly normal. The clues are lower down: splash marks on the paving below, a darker streak down the brickwork beneath one joint, green film along the fascia or a patch of soil that is always wet. These marks point us to the section that has been failing.
They are not a diagnosis on their own. Once the run is clear and water has been put through it, we can tell whether the cause was debris, a parted joint, a dropped bracket or a gutter that lacks enough fall.
How the visit runs
The method stays the same from house to house; the detail changes with each roofline.
We look at every run, including those on extensions and garages, and at where we can stand safely, noting corners, junctions, outlets and any visible damage before starting.
Compacted leaf litter, silt and moss are vacuumed out with a pole-fed machine from ground level wherever it reaches, so the wet material is collected rather than dropped.
The vacuum nozzle is worked into each angle, junction and outlet, where decomposed debris gathers most, rather than simply passed along the straight lengths.
Water is sent down each outlet and pipe so we can see it running away. If it backs up further down, the restriction is noted as a separate drainage matter.
Loose brackets and parted joints are re-seated where minor, the outer faces are washed of streaking, and you get a plain summary of anything else we found.
Within reason
Taking the debris out gives rainwater a free path again, and on many houses that is all that was wrong. It does not cure a gutter hung without enough fall, a joint whose seal has failed or a downpipe blocked underground. If water still sits or spills after we have flushed the run, the remaining fault is easier to identify, and we will describe it plainly.
Beside the river and under mature trees, leaf litter will return. Clearing is maintenance, not a one-off.
Included
Corners, junctions and outlets get the most time, because those are the points where wet, decomposed debris settles and holds water back.
Extension, porch and garage gutters are agreed at the site visit, so nothing on the property is left out by default.
Wet debris is collected in the vacuum instead of falling onto patios, gravel or borders, and the waste leaves the property with us.
Every visit is carried out by fully insured operatives, using the access method agreed with you beforehand.

We also clear gutters in Wooburn Green, Wooburn Moor, Hedsor, Flackwell Heath and Cookham. Homes along the valley floor share the same damp conditions, while those on higher ground tend to collect more wind-blown leaves.

Questions
Yes. Leaves decompose into a flat, compact layer mixed with silt and moss below the rim. A channel can lose much of its capacity without anything showing from the ground.
A partial blockage can pass light rain but not a downpour. Poor fall, a parted joint or a gutter too small for its roof can cause the same pattern, so we check the cleared run for those as well.
Yes. Lower runs on extensions, porches, bays and garages can be included, and we confirm which ones at the site visit so the quotation covers the whole roofline you want cleared.
Yes. The outer face of the gutter and the fascia behind it are washed of green streaking as part of the visit. Stains on the wall lower down are a separate cleaning job.
Not usually. Most domestic gutters are cleared with the pole-fed vacuum from the ground. Where a section sits over glass, behind planting or beyond the pole's reach, a properly footed ladder is planned in advance.
Only minor repairs. Brackets and separated joints are re-seated where that will hold. Cracked lengths, failed outlets or replacement work are reported so you can arrange a gutter specialist.
Once a year is a reasonable starting point, and twice for homes under mature trees or with a history of overflow. Damp keeps debris breaking down in the channel, so it compacts faster here than on open ground.
