Block Paved Driveway Cleaning in Maidenhead
An overgrown block paved driveway in Maidenhead, cleared by hand, deep cleaned, treated with Chiltern EverGuard™, re-sanded with polymeric sand and compacted.
Driveway Cleaning · Berkshire
Around Windsor, a driveway is often framed by contrasting borders, setts, steps and a channel drain at the garage. We clean the main surface to suit its material, give those details the same attention, then finish with Chiltern EverGuard™.

Our approach
A driveway can be washed until its middle is bright and still look unfinished, because borders, thresholds and the band beside the wall stay dark. Most of the dirt that people notice gathers at those edges. We plan the work around them from the start, changing the method wherever a decorative detail is a different material from the drive itself.

Windsor homes
Windsor developed around the Castle from the medieval period and expanded again once the railways arrived in the nineteenth century, absorbing older settlements such as Clewer along the way. The result is a mix of period terraces, older brick properties, established suburban streets and newer housing, and the front drives follow suit.
Older homes often have compact frontages where the parking space sits close to the pavement, edged in contrasting blocks or setts. Larger plots in the suburbs carry wider block-paved or tarmac drives, and newer homes add resin and porcelain. Mature trees and gardens near the Thames keep many of these surfaces shaded, which is where algae and moss settle first.
Edges and borders
Decorative edging gives a drive its shape, but its smaller units and deeper joints hold more dirt than the main paving beside them. A pass at the setting used on the open drive can leave the border darker, or disturb mortar and narrow blocks.
We clean borders according to their own material and joint condition, so the robust central surface does not set the pressure for the details around it. Where a border meets planting, rinse water and loosened grit are kept off the beds. The aim is a drive where the border still stands apart from the main paving, as it was designed to.
The road edge
The first few metres of a drive take every tyre that enters, along with grit and splash carried in from the road. That apron can darken differently from the parking space beside the house even when both are the same paving.
Cleaning has to bring the two back into balance without overworking the most exposed section, and the transition between them is where we take most care. We keep the work to the private surface included in the agreed area.
Thresholds and drains
Linear drains often sit across a garage entrance or at a change in level, and loosened silt naturally runs towards them during cleaning. Leaving it in the grate would only move the problem to the lowest point of the drive.
We manage the run-off as we work and clear accessible surface debris from the immediate drainage route. Faults in buried drainage are a separate matter, and we will say so if we see signs of one.
Tarmac and stone
Tarmac changes as it ages. Moss, algae and loose dirt can be lifted, but faded colour and worn binder are part of the surface, so we keep the pressure to what it needs rather than chasing a darker finish.
Natural stone is assessed before anything is agreed, because sandstone, limestone and granite differ in how deeply they hold staining. Genuine veining and tonal variation become clearer once grime is gone, and they are part of the stone's character.
How we work
Each stage below happens on every driveway we restore. Inside each one, the method follows the materials we found at the site visit.
We identify the main surface and every border, apron and threshold, note joints, stains, drains and access, and explain the method we recommend for each part.
Moss, algae, weeds and traffic film are removed at the lowest pressure that works on the material, with localised stains given separate attention where suitable.
Borders, setts, steps, the entrance apron and the garage threshold are cleaned to their own requirements, and accessible surface debris is cleared from drainage grates.
Block paving is left to dry, compacted with a vibrating plate compactor and refilled joint by joint with Chiltern Polymeric Sand.
The Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment goes on last, to help slow the return of moss, algae and lichen on the restored surface, and we walk the drive with you.
Know the limits
Cleaning restores what can be restored. It will not lift a border that has sunk, replace mortar that has crumbled, or restore tarmac that has worn thin. Deep oil and rust marks on porous paving can be improved, often significantly, but may not disappear. We point all of this out at the site visit, so the result you see matches the one we described.
Why us
Borders, aprons, thresholds and steps are part of the job from the outset, not an extra added once the centre is clean.
We use the least pressure and the least chemical that achieve the result, even when that means a slower, more considered clean.
Block-paved drives have every joint refilled with our polymeric jointing sand after cleaning and compaction, never left half empty.
Fully insured operatives, a clear statement of works agreed beforehand and a walk-round of the finished drive with you.
Nearby
Our driveway work also reaches the neighbourhoods and villages around the town, including Clewer and Dedworth to the west, Old Windsor and Datchet along the Thames, and Eton and Eton Wick across the river.

Questions
Yes. Borders are cleaned according to their own material and joint condition, so a contrasting edge of setts or blocks is not treated at the setting used on the main paving. That keeps the distinction the border was designed to give.
Every vehicle crosses it, and it collects grit and splash from the road as well. That gives it a heavier, more compacted traffic film than the parking area further in, so it needs consistent cleaning rather than spot treatment.
Yes, as far as it is accessible from the surface. Loosened silt runs towards the grate during cleaning, so we clear it rather than leave a ridge at the lowest point. Problems in buried drainage need separate investigation.
No. Cleaning removes moss, algae and loose dirt, but fading and wear come from the tarmac ageing, not from contamination. We keep the pressure to what the surface needs instead of chasing colour that cleaning cannot bring back.
No. Natural stone carries genuine tonal variation and mineral markings, and they show more clearly once the grime has gone. We clean the contamination and leave the character of the stone as it is.
It is our own treatment, applied after every driveway restoration to help reduce how quickly moss, algae and lichen return. Protection typically lasts between 12 and 24 months, depending on the setting, the surface and how the drive is maintained.
