Driveway Cleaning · Berkshire
Ascot drives are often long, gated and lined with mature trees, so the entrance, the approach and the parking area each weather differently. We clean them in planned sections, rebuild block-paving joints and finish with Chiltern EverGuard™.

Our approach
On a long approach, the stretch by the road takes grit and tyre traffic, the middle runs beneath trees and the area by the house is shaded by the building itself. Each part gathers a different kind of dirt. We work in planned sections so a heavily soiled zone is cleaned properly without the rest of the drive being overworked to match it.

Ascot properties
Ascot has a green, semi-rural character. Mature trees and open green space run through its residential areas, from North and South Ascot to Sunninghill, and many homes sit on generous plots set back from the road behind gates, walls and planting. The drive is frequently the longest hard surface on the property.
That setting shapes how a driveway ages. Leaf fall and shade from established trees keep stretches of paving damp, while the open sections dry quickly. Older homes and newer ones sit side by side in the wider area, so one entrance may combine block paving with stone setts, a resin parking area or a border in a contrasting material.
Gates and piers
Gates, walls and entrance piers change how a drive weathers. Dirt collects along the line where vehicles stop for the gate, and the narrow strips beside each pier stay greener than the open surface because they see little sun or tyre movement. These are the first places a visitor notices.
We include them in the restoration wherever they are accessible, working into the corners by the posts and along the foot of the walls, so the entrance does not finish as a bright strip framed by dark margins.
Turning areas
Where cars turn in the same place day after day, fine grit and tyre film collect in curved bands that differ from the general green film along the shaded edges. Treating the two in the same way would mean either under-cleaning the arcs or overworking everything else.
We address the traffic pattern with targeted cleaning and keep the rest of the drive at the pressure its material needs. Where tyres have worn the surface itself, that wear will still show once the dirt has gone, and we say so beforehand.
Under the trees
Wet leaves left on paving release tannins that leave brown or yellowish marks after the leaves themselves are swept away. On pale stone or block paving these can be the most noticeable stains on the drive. They are chemically different from algae and mud, so more pressure is not the answer.
Shaded stretches beneath trees also stay damp for longer, and that is where moss and algae establish first. We identify each type of mark before cleaning, give tannin staining separate treatment where the surface is compatible and explain which marks are likely to fade rather than lift fully.
Block paving
On an extensive block-paved drive, the joints matter as much as the faces of the blocks. Cleaning removes weeds, moss and the old jointing material, so once the surface is dry we run a vibrating plate compactor across it and brush Chiltern Polymeric Sand into every joint.
We use it instead of conventional kiln-dried sand because it helps stabilise the paving and gives greater protection against weed growth, erosion and joint washout. It restores the joints; it is not a repair for a failed sub-base or areas that have settled.
Step by step
The stages are the same for every drive. On a long approach, each stage is carried out in planned sections so the finish stays consistent from gate to door.
We walk the drive from the gate to the house, identifying each surface, border, turning area, drain and stain, and agree where the work starts and finishes.
Organic growth, traffic film and grime are removed section by section, at the lowest effective pressure for each material, so the drive finishes evenly.
Gate lines, the margins beside piers, borders and thresholds are finished carefully, and accessible surface debris is kept out of the drainage grates.
Once the block paving is dry, it is compacted with a vibrating plate compactor and every joint is refilled with Chiltern Polymeric Sand.
The restored drive is finished with the Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment to help reduce the return of moss, algae and lichen beneath the trees.
Before you book
A large drive restored in one go makes a striking difference, but some things belong to the surface rather than the dirt on it, and we will show you where at the site visit.
Why us
Long drives are worked in sections in a set order, so the finish at the gate matches the finish by the front door.
Stone setts, resin, porcelain and block paving within one entrance each receive the method that suits them.
Block paving is plate-compacted and every joint refilled with Chiltern Polymeric Sand before the protective treatment goes on.
Fully insured operatives, a clear quotation agreed in advance and a walk of the finished drive with you before we leave.
Nearby
We also restore driveways close to the town in North Ascot, South Ascot, Sunninghill, Sunningdale, Cheapside and Winkfield. Many of those homes share the same tree-lined, generous setting, so the same planned approach applies.

Questions
Yes. We plan the work in sections from the gate to the house so the entrance, turning areas and parking space all finish consistently. Access for the equipment and where the van can sit are agreed at the site visit.
They get little sun and almost no tyre traffic, so they stay damp after rain while the open drive dries. Moss and algae establish there first. We work into those corners rather than stopping where the main surface ends.
Most will improve noticeably. Marks that are surface grime and rubber film respond well to targeted cleaning, but where tyres have worn the paving itself, that wear will still show once the drive is clean.
Usually tannin from wet leaves. It soaks into paving and leaves a brown or yellowish stain after the leaf has gone. It can often be treated separately where the surface allows, though older staining can be stubborn.
Yes. Once the cleaned paving is dry, we compact it and brush Chiltern Polymeric Sand into every joint, which helps stabilise the blocks and resists weed growth and joint washout.
Typically between 12 and 24 months, depending on the location, surroundings, surface and maintenance. Under heavy tree cover, where leaves and shade keep the drive damp, protection is likely to sit towards the shorter end of that range.
