Solar Panel Cleaning · Buckinghamshire
Gerrards Cross is known for wide roads lined with mature trees, and those trees shed something onto roofs in every season. We wash panels clear with de-ionised water and a soft brush, timed around what falls.

The pattern
Trees are part of what makes the town attractive, and they are also the main reason its panels dull. What reaches the glass changes through the year, from pollen to sticky residue to leaves, so the best time to clean depends on what your particular trees drop and when. We look at that at the site visit before suggesting a timing.

Gerrards Cross homes
Much of Gerrards Cross grew up in the early twentieth century after the railway arrived. Many of its roads are lined with substantial detached houses, a large number of them from the inter-war years, set in generous, mature gardens. Common land and woodland lie close to the centre, and private roads and gated drives are a familiar part of the town.
That setting puts plenty of established trees within reach of most roofs. Oaks, limes, beeches and conifers each shed different material at different times, and on a large roof an array can sit beneath several of them. Where panels face the back garden, often the leafiest side of the house, they catch more than the front elevation suggests.
Spring and summer
From early spring, pollen settles on every upward-facing surface as a fine yellow-green dust, and a light shower turns it into a film. Blossom and seed cases follow. In summer, aphids feeding on trees such as lime drop a sugary honeydew, which dries on glass as a tacky layer that catches more dust.
These deposits are thin, but they cover the whole panel rather than a single patch, and rain alone tends to move them around rather than remove them.
Autumn and winter
In autumn, leaves come down onto the roof, and some slide down the array to wedge against the bottom frame. They hold water there, darken as they decay and give moss a foothold.
Over winter the sun sits low in the sky, and its light strikes the glass at a shallow angle that shows up any haze and streaking clearly. Many homeowners first notice their panels need attention during those months, when the year's build-up becomes visible from the garden.
Choosing a time
There is no single right month, but there are sensible ones. We suggest a timing based on the trees we see around your roof and what they are likely to drop next.
On the day
The method does not change with the season; only the mix of deposits does. Access, including private roads and gates, is agreed beforehand.
We look at the array, the trees around it and the ground below, check the glass, frames and seals, and agree parking, gate access and how each panel will be reached.
De-ionised water runs through a long pole to a soft-bristle head, which lifts pollen, honeydew and droppings from the glass. We work from the ground and keep off the panels.
Wedged leaves, decaying litter and moss are worked out of the lower edge and corners and rinsed away, so water drains off the panel freely again.
The glass gets a thorough final rinse in pure water and is left to dry by itself, without towels or squeegees, so it finishes without smears.
We tell you how the array looked, mention anything that may need an installer, and suggest when the trees around you will make a further clean worthwhile.
Know the limits
The glass and frames come back clear, and the panels look markedly better. But the trees do not stop, and fresh pollen or leaves can arrive within days of a clean.
We also make no promise about generation: the difference a clean makes depends on how dirty the panels were, their shading and the weather.
Why us
We suggest when to clean based on the trees around your roof, rather than selling a fixed schedule that ignores them.
De-ionised water and soft bristles only, so no detergent ends up in your borders, lawn or pond below the array.
Private roads, gates and parking are agreed at the site visit, so the crew arrives knowing exactly where to set up.
Fully insured, and working from ground level wherever possible, with weight kept off the panels and the roof around them.
Nearby
We clean panels in the neighbouring villages too, including Chalfont St Peter, Chalfont St Giles, Fulmer, Denham, Stoke Poges and Seer Green, many of which share the same tree-lined roads and large gardens.

Questions
Usually after the leaves have fallen in late autumn, which clears the year's debris before winter. Where the trees drop heavy pollen or honeydew, a second clean in early summer is often worthwhile.
Most often it is honeydew, a sugary substance dropped by aphids feeding on trees such as lime and sycamore. It dries tacky and collects dust. De-ionised water and a soft brush lift it without any detergent.
Not directly, but they cause problems. Leaves wedged against the bottom frame hold water, decay and give moss a place to grow, and they shade the lowest cells. Clearing them during a clean keeps the edge draining freely.
Yes. Parking, gates and the route round to the array are agreed at the site visit, so nothing about access has to be worked out once the crew arrives.
Sometimes not. If the glass shows just a light dust, rain may keep it in check for now, and we will tell you so. A clean becomes worthwhile when droppings, a pollen or honeydew film, or debris at the frames are clearly visible.
No. Even sticky deposits come off with de-ionised water and steady work with a soft brush. Detergent can leave a residue on the glass and would run down into the garden below.
