Brick Cleaning and Soft Washing in Beaconsfield
Brick cleaning and soft washing in Beaconsfield: black algae and lichen treated on brick retaining walls and copings, then rinsed at low pressure.
Soft Wash Treatment · Buckinghamshire
Many houses in Gerrards Cross combine render, brick and stone dressings on a single elevation, under the shade of tall roadside trees. We soft wash each material at low pressure and finish with Chiltern EverGuard™.

Our approach
A typical elevation here might have rendered upper walls, a brick plinth, stone sills or quoins, lead flashings and painted timber, all within a few metres. A single pressure setting would suit none of them. Soft washing lets the solution do the work and keeps the rinse gentle, so each material can be treated safely in the same visit. We plan it with you at a free site visit.

Gerrards Cross homes
Much of Gerrards Cross was built in the first half of the twentieth century, after the railway arrived, and its residential roads are known for their width, their large plots and their trees. Many houses are detached and generous in scale, with broad rendered elevations, brick detailing and stone dressings, and plenty of later and newer homes sit among them.
The trees along those roads and across the Common are a large part of the town's appeal, but they keep walls shaded and damp, and leaf litter on sills and ledges breaks down into exactly the organic layer that algae and moss use. Walls facing the road under a canopy, side elevations close to hedges and anything north-facing are where staining usually builds first.
Stone details
Stone dressings catch more staining than the walls around them. They project, so they hold rainwater and debris, and many are cut from softer stones that absorb moisture. Grey, green and black growth builds up on their top faces and runs down from the edges.
Pressure can erode a soft stone face or open its joints, so stone is treated with the solution and rinsed at low pressure. Where lead flashings or capping sit above, we work around them carefully and report anything that looks loose.
Render
A big rendered wall makes uneven cleaning obvious. If one area is worked harder than another, the difference shows as patches and lines once it dries. Because the soft wash solution, not pressure, does the cleaning, the result depends on even application and enough time to work, and that is what brings the colour back consistently across the whole elevation.
We check the render for cracks, hollow areas and paint that is lifting before any treatment is agreed.
Roofline
Under a canopy of trees, the roofline collects as much as the walls. Black streaks form where rainwater runs over the gutter's outer face, soffits gather algae and cobwebs, and painted timber bargeboards turn green in the shade. These are cleaned with the correct solution for the material, uPVC or painted timber, so the finish comes back evenly along the full run.
If a gutter is overflowing and causing the staining, we will tell you, because the marks will return until that is put right.
Afterwards
Each soft wash ends with the Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment, applied once the surfaces are clean. It works on the spores and residual growth that remain and helps reduce how quickly algae and staining return to render, brick and stone.
Chiltern EverGuard™ inhibits regrowth, typically for two to three years, depending on the surface and its environment. Under a dense canopy of roadside trees, expect the shorter end of that range.
How it works
On a house built from several materials, each step is adjusted for each surface rather than run once at a single setting.
We walk each elevation with you, name every material from render to stone dressings and lead, check its condition and agree access, water supply and parking.
Borders, lawns, glazing, painted joinery and any delicate stonework not being treated are covered or wetted down before the solution is used.
The solution is applied at low pressure, adjusted for render, brick or stone, and left to act on the growth for as long as each surface needs.
Every surface is rinsed down gently from the top, and the planting below is rinsed again so nothing is left sitting on leaves or lawn.
Once clean, the surfaces receive Chiltern EverGuard™, and we review the finished elevation with you, including any long-established marks still to fade.
Before you book
Soft washing makes a significant improvement where staining is organic, and we aim to restore the original appearance where the condition allows. Some marks need other work, and we would rather say so now.
Why us
Render, brick, stone and painted timber are identified and checked at the visit, so each is cleaned with a method that suits it.
The solution cleans and the rinse only carries the growth away, so soft stone, mortar and render are never exposed to a jet.
Parking, access, water supply and hose runs are planned at the site visit, which matters on larger plots and private roads.
Fully insured technicians who protect your garden and glazing and walk you round the finished work before leaving.
Nearby
We also work in the surrounding villages, including Chalfont St Peter, Fulmer, Denham, Hedgerley, Stoke Poges and Jordans. Tree cover and larger plots are common across them, so the same assessment comes first.

Questions
Yes, in most cases. Stone details are treated with a low-pressure solution and rinsed gently, which lifts organic growth without eroding the face. Very soft or already crumbling stone is pointed out at the visit before any cleaning is agreed.
Tall roadside trees keep walls shaded and damp, drip onto sills and ledges, and drop leaves that rot down into a layer algae can grow in. A wall that rarely dries in sunlight gives growth everything it needs.
Yes. Render is one of the surfaces soft washing is meant for, and on a large elevation even application gives a more consistent result than pressure. We check the render for cracks, hollow areas and loose paint first.
No, not when the work is planned properly. Joinery and glazing near the treated area are covered or wetted down, and the rinse removes the solution afterwards. We work carefully around lead and report any flashing that looks loose or lifted.
Yes. Black streaking on uPVC or painted fascias, soffits and gutter faces is removed with the correct solution. If an overflowing gutter is causing the streaks, we will tell you, because they will come back until the overflow is dealt with.
Chiltern EverGuard™ inhibits regrowth, typically for two to three years, depending on the surface and its environment. Shaded walls along tree-lined roads usually sit nearer the shorter end of that range.
