Driveway Cleaning · Oxfordshire
At the foot of the Chiltern escarpment, many Watlington drives slope, meet old brick and flint, or sit under mature hedges. We clean each surface with the pressure it needs, manage the run-off and finish every drive with Chiltern EverGuard™.

Start with the ground
A drive does not have to be steep for its fall to matter. Water, silt and loosened moss all travel downhill during a clean, and they gather at the lowest edge, the garage threshold or the gateway. We look at that fall at the free site visit and plan the work around it, so the dirt is collected rather than left at the bottom.

Watlington homes
Watlington sits at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, with Watlington Hill rising just beyond it and the conservation-area core gathered around its seventeenth-century town hall. Cottages, Georgian town houses and former farmhouses stand alongside more recent homes on the edge of town.
Red brick is everywhere, often paired with flint, and older walls and boundaries frame many entrances. Drives here are just as mixed: natural stone and setts outside period houses, older concrete and tarmac, and block paving or resin on later homes. Mature hedges and sheltered plots keep parts of many drives in shade, and where a surface stays damp, algae, moss and weeds take hold first along the edges.
Slopes
On a sloping entrance, everything the clean releases heads for the lowest point. If that point is a garage door, a front step or a planted border, it needs protecting before work begins. If it is a channel drain or gully, it needs keeping clear as the work goes on.
We work with the direction of run-off and pay close attention to the lower edges where debris naturally settles. Steps and changes of level are cleaned as part of the same plan, so the bottom of the drive finishes as clean as the top. Clearing debris can help water move off the surface, but it will not correct a fall that was laid wrongly or a drainage fault below ground.
Tarmac
Moss, algae and organic growth are the usual reasons a tarmac drive is cleaned, and they gather most along shaded margins and beside hedges. Older tarmac can be softer at its edges and around previous patches, so pressure is kept to what the surface actually needs rather than turned up to chase the last mark.
If a drive is already breaking up, cleaning cannot rebuild it. We say so at the visit, so you know whether a clean or a resurfacing contractor is the right next step.
Boundaries
The busiest part of a drive is not always the dirtiest. Gate lines, garage thresholds and edges beside borders collect grit and organic residue, while the patch under a parked car stays sheltered. Those transitions are included in the plan, so the entrance does not finish with a bright centre and a grubby perimeter.
Old brick, soft mortar and flint walls are often more delicate than the drive beside them. At each boundary we adjust the method to the more vulnerable surface and protect planting before any treatment is applied.
Block paving
Cleaning block paving removes weeds, organic debris and the loose jointing sand that has been holding them. Leaving the joints open would let the blocks shift and invite fresh growth, so our restoration does not stop once the surface looks bright.
Our process
Each stage below happens on every drive. Within it, the pressure, the treatment and the order of work follow what the site visit showed us.
At the free site visit we identify the material, look at the joints, staining and any vulnerable edges, and note where the drive falls and where water will collect.
Thresholds, steps, borders and delicate walls at the low points are protected, and loose items are moved, before any cleaning water reaches the surface.
The drive is cleaned evenly with settings chosen for the material, working with the run-off. Heated water is used where the surface tolerates it, and growth is lifted from edges and joints.
On block paving, the dried surface is compacted with a vibrating plate compactor and every joint refilled with Chiltern Polymeric Sand. Other materials receive the finishing steps that suit them.
The Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment is applied, the lower edges and channels are checked for silt, and we explain how the drive is likely to weather in its setting.
Cleaning or repair
A professional clean restores colour, removes organic growth and refreshes tired joints, and it often makes a weathered entrance look significantly better. It can also reveal defects that were hidden under moss and dirt.
It cannot level sunken paving, rebuild failed edges, repair cracked concrete or reverse structural movement. Old oil that has soaked deep into porous paving may be reduced rather than removed. Keeping that line clear means you know what the clean will deliver before you agree to it.
Why us
Run-off, low edges and channels are part of the assessment, so silt and moss are collected instead of left at the bottom of the drive.
Where a drive meets old brick, flint or soft mortar, the method is set for the more delicate surface rather than the paving.
Every driveway we restore receives it. Protection typically lasts between 12 and 24 months, depending on location, shade, surface and upkeep.
Fully insured operatives, a method agreed in advance and straight answers about anything that needs another trade.
Nearby
We also clean and restore driveways around Watlington, including Pyrton, Shirburn, Cuxham, Britwell Salome, Christmas Common and Aston Rowant. Many share the same hillside setting and traditional materials, so slopes and boundaries get the same attention.

Questions
Yes, where access and the surface allow. We look at the gradient and the direction of run-off first, protect whatever sits at the bottom, and manage the water and loosened debris as the work progresses.
Not when the pressure is set for its condition. Older tarmac can be softer at the edges and around patches, so we identify those areas first and keep the cleaning measured. A surface that is already breaking up needs resurfacing rather than a clean.
Yes, subject to assessment. Older stone, setts, concrete and mixed surfaces are cleaned according to their condition, with particular care at fragile joints, weathered edges and the brick or flint walls beside them.
No. Cleaning can show up the condition of the drive, but it cannot correct settlement or a failed base. On block paving we compact the surface before re-sanding, which helps the blocks bed down, but real structural problems need a separate repair.
Not always. Specialist treatment significantly reduces most oil staining, but very old marks that have soaked deep into the surface may not lift completely. We give you an honest view of each stain at the site visit.
Typically between 12 and 24 months. A drive under hedges or in the shade of the hills usually sits towards the shorter end, while an open, sunny one lasts longer. Surface type and upkeep also play a part.
