Brick Cleaning and Soft Washing in Beaconsfield
Brick cleaning and soft washing in Beaconsfield: black algae and lichen treated on brick retaining walls and copings, then rinsed at low pressure.
Soft Wash Treatment · Buckinghamshire
Aylesbury sits out in the open vale rather than among the beech woods, and much of its housing is recent, with cladding, render panels and uPVC rooflines. We soft wash those surfaces at low pressure and finish with Chiltern EverGuard™.

Why it matters
It is easy to assume a house built in recent decades should stay clean. In practice, cladding boards, render panels and white uPVC show green film and black streaking very clearly, and on an exposed site the weather side can mark sooner than owners expect. Soft washing suits these surfaces because they are finished rather than hard-wearing, and pressure can damage them.

Aylesbury homes
Aylesbury is the county town, set in the Vale of Aylesbury below the Chiltern escarpment. The land around it is flatter and more open than the wooded hills to the south, so walls here are shaded less by trees and more by neighbouring houses, garages and their own orientation. On open sites, wind-driven rain soaks the exposed side of a building, and that is often where algae shows first.
The historic centre and older streets such as those around Walton have traditional brick, render and slate, while the town has grown outwards through large developments such as Fairford Leys and Watermead. On the newer homes we mostly meet fibre-cement or composite cladding, coloured render panels, brick and uPVC rooflines, each needing a soft, controlled clean rather than force.
Cladding
Horizontal cladding, whether fibre-cement, composite or painted timber, has a lip along every board where dirt, spores and moisture collect. Green growth follows those lines, and the underside of each lap stays damp after the face has dried. A jet aimed along the boards can force water behind them, mark the factory finish or lift paint from timber.
A low-pressure solution, applied evenly and left to act, reaches into the laps without that risk, and a gentle rinse carries the loosened growth down and away. We check fixings and any split or swollen boards first, since cleaning will not put those right.
Rooflines
On a modern home the roofline is usually white or anthracite uPVC, and it shows every streak. Black lines form where rainwater runs over the outer face of the gutter, and soffits under deep eaves collect algae and cobwebs. These are cleaned with the correct solution for uPVC, which removes the streaking evenly along the whole run instead of leaving a cleaner patch where someone could reach.
The older town
Closer to the centre, houses are older and their materials more varied: traditional brick, painted render, stone details and slate roofs. These finishes have weathered for a long time and can have soft joints, earlier repairs or several coats of paint. We assess them as carefully as any newer surface, checking for loose render and flaking paint, and use the same low-pressure solution and rinse so the clean adds no wear to the building.
After the rinse
With the surface clean, we apply the Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment as standard. It acts on spores and residual growth left behind after cleaning and helps reduce how quickly algae returns to cladding, render and brick.
Protection typically lasts between 12 and 24 months, depending on the location, the surroundings, the surface and its maintenance. A wall that takes the brunt of the weather on an open site may need attention sooner than a sheltered one.
Our process
Whether the wall is a cladding gable on a new estate or painted render in the centre, the order of work stays the same.
We identify each material, from cladding and render to brick and uPVC, check its condition and fixings, and confirm whether soft washing is the right approach.
Young planting, lawns, windows, doors and painted joinery are covered or wetted down before any solution is applied to the walls.
The treatment is applied at low pressure along each wall and into the laps of any cladding, then left long enough to break down the growth.
Each surface is rinsed from the top down at a pressure suited to the material, and the planting below is rinsed clean as well.
Chiltern EverGuard™ is applied once the surface is clean, and we talk you through the result and anything we noticed about the condition of the walls.
Before you book
On sound cladding, render and uPVC the improvement is usually significant, and some older staining continues to lighten after the visit as it weathers.
Cleaning does not repair. Split or swollen boards, cracked render, failing paint and faded or chalky uPVC stay as they are, and growth will return sooner on the most exposed side of the house.
Why us
Fibre-cement, composite, coloured render and uPVC each have a finish that pressure can mark, so each is cleaned with a suitable solution instead.
The whole run of cladding or roofline is treated, so there is no cleaner patch where someone could easily reach.
Split boards, loose render or failing paint are pointed out at the visit, before anything is applied, rather than discovered afterwards.
Fully insured operatives who protect planting and glazing, and who tidy and rinse the area before they leave.
Nearby
We also work in the neighbourhoods and villages around the town, including Fairford Leys, Watermead, Bedgrove, Bierton, Stoke Mandeville and Weston Turville. Older cottages and new estates both appear across them, and each house is assessed on its own surfaces.

Questions
Yes. Both suit a low-pressure solution and a gentle rinse, which cleans the boards and the laps between them without marking the finish. We check for split, swollen or loose boards first, because cleaning will not correct them.
Newer homes are often finished in pale render, light cladding and white uPVC, which show growth clearly. On an open site the wall facing the prevailing weather stays wet after rain, and algae establishes wherever a surface stays damp.
Generally, yes, provided the render is sound. Coloured render is cleaned with a low-pressure solution rather than a jet, which could mark or wear the surface. We check for cracks and loose areas at the site visit before recommending it.
Yes. Black streaking on uPVC gutters, fascias and soffits is removed with the correct solution, giving an even finish along the whole roofline. Faded or chalky uPVC is a different problem, and we will say if that is what we are looking at.
Yes. Older brick, painted render and stone details are assessed carefully for soft joints, loose patches and flaking paint, and cleaned at low pressure so the treatment adds no wear to the building.
Chiltern EverGuard™ protection typically lasts between 12 and 24 months, depending on the location, the surroundings, the surface and its maintenance. The most exposed side of the house usually needs attention first.
