Brick Cleaning and Soft Washing in Beaconsfield
Brick cleaning and soft washing in Beaconsfield: black algae and lichen treated on brick retaining walls and copings, then rinsed at low pressure.
Soft Wash Treatment · Buckinghamshire
Homes in the Misbourne valley often mix several materials on one property: brick and render on the house, timber on the outbuildings, uPVC along the roofline. Each is soft washed at low pressure in its own way.

The principle
A wall can look tired long before anything is wrong with it. Green algae, dark streaks and lichen change the colour of render, brick and timber while the finish beneath is still sound. Soft Wash Treatment applies a cleaning solution at low pressure, leaves it to act on that growth and then rinses it away, using the least pressure and the least solution that does the job.

Valley homes
Great Missenden lies in the valley of the River Misbourne, with the wooded slopes of the Chilterns close on either side. Properties tucked under those slopes or set among mature gardens get less direct sun and less breeze, and the walls that face into the trees stay damp well after a shower. Those are the elevations that turn green first.
The village has older brick and flint cottages near its centre, and the lanes around it hold larger family houses and country homes. Many of those come with more than one building: a timber-clad garage, a garden room, an oak-framed car port or a long run of fencing. A single visit can involve half a dozen different surfaces.
Timber and composite
Timber cladding, fencing, decking details and composite boards pick up algae and dark organic staining, especially close to planting. None of them benefit from prolonged, forceful washing, which raises the grain on wood and can scar a composite face.
A soft wash lets the solution work at low pressure, followed by a controlled rinse. On timber we take account of the existing stain, oil or paint and the condition of the grain, because cleaning removes growth but cannot replace a worn-out finish. If a feature needs refinishing afterwards, we will say so.
Cladding
Composite and fibre-cement cladding collects a green film and grime along board edges, under window heads and on sheltered faces. Its manufactured finish is part of what you paid for and should not be treated like bare concrete.
We use gentle application, the right dwell time and a careful rinse, adjusted to the condition of the boards. Fixings, laps and the glazing around them are considered during preparation, so water is not driven behind the boards and the elevation finishes evenly rather than just across the middle.
The roofline
uPVC fascias, soffits and gutters develop black streaks beneath joints, green staining on shaded runs and dirt at the corners where roof water collects. Because they sit high on the house, the change creeps up unnoticed until the contrast with the walls becomes obvious.
The right solution at low pressure lifts that streaking and leaves an even finish along the whole run. Where staining is coming from a gutter that leaks or overflows, cleaning will improve the look, but the gutter itself also needs putting right.
Dwell time
A soft wash solution needs time on the surface to break down organic growth. Rinsing it off straight away would throw away most of the benefit of working at low pressure.
How long it needs depends on the surface, the growth and the conditions on the day. Where a wall needs more, a further controlled application is usually better than reaching for a stronger mix or a harder jet. On porous or textured surfaces, some dead growth can also keep lightening through ordinary weathering after we leave, and we will tell you where to expect that.
On the day
Each surface on the property gets its own method, but the sequence stays the same so nothing is missed.
We look at the house, the outbuildings and any timber or cladding, check finishes and condition, and recommend soft washing only where it suits the surface in front of us.
Beds, lawns, glazing, paintwork and neighbouring materials are sheeted or wetted down before any treatment begins, and garden furniture and pots are moved out of the working area.
The chosen solution is applied evenly across the whole agreed area, not just the easiest visible patches, so walls, boards and roofline finish to a consistent tone.
The treatment is given the time it needs, with a further application only where it is genuinely required, and then each surface is rinsed in a way that suits its material.
Once everything is clean, Chiltern EverGuard™ goes on as the final stage to help slow the return of algae and organic growth across the treated surfaces.
Worth knowing
Soft washing removes growth and the staining it causes from sound surfaces. It does not repair them. Cracked or blown render, failing paint, split boards and worn timber finishes remain maintenance jobs for the right trade, and some differences in paint age or earlier touch-ups can be easier to spot once a wall is clean.
The Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment helps reduce regrowth, with protection typically lasting between 12 and 24 months depending on shade, surface and upkeep. Walls and timber under trees will see growth return sooner than open ones.
Why us
House walls, outbuildings, timber, cladding and roofline are assessed together, and each one is given the method that suits its material.
We start with the lowest practical pressure and the least solution that works, and build up only where a surface genuinely needs it.
Protecting planting, glass and paintwork takes time, and we include that time in every job rather than treating it as an extra.
Fully insured operatives carry out every job, and we walk you round the finished surfaces so you can see exactly what was done.
Nearby
We also carry out soft washing in the surrounding villages, including Prestwood, Little Missenden, South Heath, The Lee, Ballinger and Hyde Heath. Many share the same mix of wooded setting, older cottages and larger homes with outbuildings.

Questions
Yes, where the timber is sound. We apply the solution at low pressure and rinse in a measured way so the grain is not raised. Cleaning removes algae and staining but cannot restore a worn stain or oil, so we will tell you if refinishing is due.
Yes. Those boards have a factory finish that a close, hard jet can mark. A gentle application with the right dwell time, followed by a careful rinse, lifts the green film without scouring the face or forcing water behind the boards.
Yes, and it is often worth including them. The black streaks and green film along uPVC rooflines come off with the right solution at low pressure, which leaves the roofline even with freshly cleaned walls below.
High pressure can mark render, open up mortar joints, raise the grain on timber and push water into places it should not go. Soft washing uses a solution and time to remove the growth instead, at a fraction of the pressure.
Yes. The Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment is applied after every soft wash once the surfaces are clean. Protection typically lasts between 12 and 24 months, depending on how sheltered the property is, the surfaces involved and how they are looked after.
No. It cleans growth from a sound finish but does not repair render that has come away from the wall, or paint that is flaking. We identify those areas at the site visit so you know what needs a different trade.
