Solar Panel Cleaning · Buckinghamshire
Great Missenden lies in the wooded Misbourne valley, and its larger plots mean arrays turn up on outbuildings, garages and frames in the garden as well as on houses. We clean each with pure water and soft brushes.

Start with the array
One home has a neat run of panels on a rear roof slope, the next a row of frames at the end of the garden and a solar thermal panel on the outbuilding. The method stays the same: de-ionised water, a soft-bristle brush and nothing standing on the glass. How each part is reached is what we work out first.

The Misbourne valley
Great Missenden sits in the valley of the River Misbourne, with woodland on the slopes either side and the chalk hills of the Chilterns National Landscape all around. Mature trees are part of almost every view, and in spring and autumn they put a steady supply of pollen, seed and leaf litter onto anything that faces the sky.
Around the old village centre, much of it within a conservation area, panels are more likely to be found on a rear roof slope, a garage or an outbuilding than on a front roof facing the street. Further out, on the larger plots towards Prestwood and South Heath, frames standing in the garden are a familiar sight. Each of those positions collects dirt in its own way.
Garden arrays
An array on a frame in the garden is the simplest to get at, because every panel can be brushed and rinsed individually and the frames checked along their length. It is also closer to everything that dirties glass. Grass cuttings, soil splashed up in heavy rain, leaves blowing across the lawn and droppings from birds using the frame as a perch all reach it more readily than they reach a roof.
Low-tilted ground arrays also hold water and fine debris along their lower edges. We clear those edges and the gaps between modules, and take care around cabling and fixings at ground level.
Outbuildings and garages
Panels on a lower roof are often at a shallower pitch than those on the house, and a shallow panel sheds rain less readily, so a film builds faster. Outbuildings also tend to stand nearer hedges and trees, which adds pollen and sticky residue.
Lower does not always mean easier. A garage may stand against a boundary, or a barn may have planting, fencing or a glass roof alongside it that dictates where the pole can be held. Solar thermal panels on outbuildings get the same pure water, with extra care taken around manifolds and pipework.
Moss from above
On older clay-tile roofs, moss grows in cushions on the tiles above and beside an array. As it dries and loosens, pieces roll down onto the glass and wedge against the bottom frame, and birds pulling at the moss scatter more of it. The panels end up carrying debris that did not start on them.
We clear what has reached the array, including the lower frame and corners. The moss on the tiles is a different task, needing a roof cleaning method suited to the tile, and we will say if it is worth addressing so that the panels stay clearer between cleans.
Our method
Roof, outbuilding or garden frame, the stages are the same. What changes is the reach, which we settle at the site visit.
We look at each installation on the property, its pitch, the ground around it, the frames and seals, and agree how every panel will be reached safely.
De-ionised water wets the glass first, giving dried droppings, sap and pollen film time to loosen before the brush is worked across them.
A soft-bristle brush, on a water-fed pole for roofs or closer in for garden frames, lifts the dirt without abrasive pads, scrapers or high pressure.
Moss, leaf fragments and grit are cleared from the lower frames, the corners and the gaps between modules, where run-off slows and debris settles.
Each array gets a final pure-water rinse and dries naturally. We then look over the installation and tell you about anything that caught our eye.
Realistic results
The glass and accessible frames are left clear of droppings, film and moss. Shade from the trees around you stays as it is, and so does any change in the panels themselves, such as cracked glass or discoloured cells. Cleaning is not an electrical check, and we do not put a number on any change in generation.
Why us
House roof, garage, barn or garden frame, we can clean all of them in one visit with the method suited to each.
No detergents or chemicals on the glass, so nothing drains into lawns, borders or a pond nearby.
Roof panels are reached with a pole from the ground where access allows. Nobody climbs on, kneels on or leans on an array.
Fully insured, based in Marlow, and happy to talk you through the roof around the panels as well as the panels themselves.
Nearby
We also clean arrays in Prestwood, Little Missenden, South Heath, Ballinger, The Lee and Hyde Heath. Many of these homes share the same tree cover and roomy gardens, so it is worth mentioning any panels away from the main roof when you get in touch.

Questions
Yes. Ground arrays are the easiest to reach, so each panel is brushed and rinsed individually, with the frames and the gaps between modules cleared. We take care around cabling and fixings close to the ground.
Yes. Flat-plate and tube collectors are washed with the same de-ionised water and soft brush, with extra care around manifolds, pipe runs and seals, which are more exposed on a thermal system.
They sit closer to everything that soils glass: soil splashed up by heavy rain, grass, leaves, and birds perching on the frames. A low tilt also lets water and fine debris sit along the bottom edge for longer.
Often, yes, if the roof around the array is heavily mossed. We clear the moss that has reached the panels and frames. Reducing the source means cleaning the roof itself, which is a separate service with its own method.
Late spring, once the heaviest pollen has fallen, and again after leaf fall suit many arrays in a wooded valley. Where one clean a year is enough, timing it after the spring pollen usually makes most sense.
It depends how dirty the panels were, so we will not put a number on it. Removing droppings, film and moss takes shading off the glass, while generation still depends on orientation, weather, season and the condition of the system.
