Gutter Cleaning · Buckinghamshire
In the open Vale of Aylesbury, gutters fill as much with roof silt, moss and wind-blown debris as with leaves. We clear them, mostly from the ground, flush every downpipe and tell you plainly what we found.

Not only leaves
It is easy to assume that a house without large trees nearby will never need its gutters cleared. In practice the roof itself sends down a steady supply of material: moss loosened from the tiles, grit and silt washed off their surface, and whatever the wind carries in across open ground. Over the years that settles into a firm layer at the outlets.

Aylesbury homes
Aylesbury is the county town of Buckinghamshire and sits in the broad, low Vale of Aylesbury, north of the Chiltern escarpment. Its historic core keeps older brick and slate-roofed buildings in conservation-area streets, and areas such as Walton add traditional brick and rendered houses close to the centre.
Much of the town is newer. Established neighbourhoods and later developments such as Fairford Leys and Watermead bring concrete roof tiles and uPVC rainwater systems on two-storey homes and bungalows alike. Wind across open ground, landscaped planting, homes near water and green spaces, and moss on any slope that stays shaded all add to what reaches the gutters.
What collects
When we open up a gutter on a house with few trees nearby, the contents are usually darker and heavier than leaf litter. Concrete tiles shed fine grit as they weather, moss on the laps breaks away and washes down, and dust and seeds blown across open ground settle in the channel. Together they form a dense silt that sits at the lowest point and slows everything behind it.
Newer homes
Most homes on later developments carry uPVC gutters with plastic outlets and downpipes. They are light and simple to keep clear, but a few points need checking. Brackets spaced along the fascia can work loose and let a run dip, so water gathers between fixings. Push-fit joints can separate slightly as the plastic expands and contracts with the seasons. And the outlets are narrow, so a small plug of silt is enough to back up an entire run.
We re-seat loose brackets and parted joints where a minor fix will hold, and report anything more.
The historic core
Older properties near the centre are a different case. Many have slate roofs, timber fascias and, in some cases, cast iron or older-pattern guttering that has been repaired and repainted over the years. Moss still forms on shaded slate pitches, and timber behind a gutter that overflows regularly softens after a few wet winters.
These runs are cleared with care and nothing is forced. We describe any rust, dropped brackets or soft timber we see, so you can decide what happens next and who should do it.
Our method
On most bungalows and two-storey houses, much of this can be done from the ground. Where it cannot, the safer access is chosen at the site visit.
We look along each elevation at the gutters, outlets and downpipes, check the roof edge above for slipped tiles or heavy moss, and agree how every section will be reached.
The pole-fed vacuum draws silt, moss and debris into the machine, so nothing is scraped onto your paths. Firm, compacted layers at the outlets are loosened carefully before they are drawn out.
We run water along the gutter and down each pipe, watching it reach the gully. If it backs up further down, we say so and suggest the drainage is looked at separately.
Brackets that have slipped and push-fit joints that have parted are re-seated where that will hold. Splits, sagging lengths and missing sections are reported instead of patched.
Green streaking is washed from the outer faces of the gutter and fascia, the work area is tidied, and you hear plainly what we found along the roofline.
Before you book
Clearing a gutter lets water reach the downpipe again, but only if the gutter is sound. It cannot repair a cracked length, stop a perished joint weeping or correct a run fitted without enough fall, and it does not reach drains below ground. A damp patch on an inside wall may take some time to dry once the overflow stops, and it may have another cause altogether.
Why us
We have cleaned roofs in Aylesbury and know how its mix of historic streets and newer estates affects what ends up in the gutters.
Silt and moss go into the vacuum rather than onto your paths and borders, and they leave the property with us.
We flush every outlet and downpipe we clear and watch the water go, so you are not left assuming the job has worked.
Fully insured operatives, access agreed in advance and a plain summary at the end, with the owner accountable for the work.
Nearby
We also clear gutters in Bierton, Stoke Mandeville, Weston Turville and Stone, as well as in neighbourhoods such as Bedgrove and Fairford Leys. Homes in these places range from village cottages to newer estates, and each is assessed on its own roofline.

Questions
Because the roof sheds its own debris. Concrete tiles release fine grit as they weather, moss breaks away from shaded slopes, and the wind carries seeds and dust across open ground. Over time this settles into a heavy silt at the outlets.
Usually, yes. Bungalow gutters are well within reach of a pole-fed vacuum from the ground, so in most cases no ladder is needed. A conservatory, porch or planting against the wall can change that, which is why we check at the site visit.
Most two-storey runs can be cleared with the vacuum from ground level. Deep overhangs, sections over conservatories or runs behind dense planting may need a properly footed ladder, and that is agreed at the site visit.
Yes. Older guttering, including cast iron, is cleared carefully and nothing is forced. We report rust, weeping joints and dropped brackets so you can decide whether a specialist should look at them.
We check before clearing. Old, abandoned nesting material is removed with the rest of the debris, but an active nest is left alone and the work is arranged around it, because nesting birds are protected by law.
Not always. If debris is holding water against a joint, clearing helps. If the seal itself has perished or the joint has separated, we re-seat it where that is a minor fix and tell you plainly if it needs replacing.
Yes. It is drawn into the vacuum rather than tipped onto beds and paths, and it leaves the property with us at the end of the visit.
