Gutter Cleaning · Buckinghamshire
Princes Risborough sits at the foot of the Chiltern escarpment, with older houses near the centre and newer estates around them. We clear each gutter run on the property, flush the downpipes and report what we see.

Where the water goes
Rain that lands on the roof slides to the eaves, runs along the gutter to an outlet and drops through the downpipe into the drain. A blockage anywhere on that route sends water somewhere it should not go. On a house with an extension, a garage and a porch, there may be four or five separate routes, and each one can fail on its own while the others carry on working.

The town and its setting
Princes Risborough lies where the Chiltern Hills drop down to the Vale of Aylesbury. Houses tucked in beneath the wooded slopes get less winter sun and more shelter, so leaf litter and moss in their gutters stay wet for weeks. Homes on the open side dry faster, but they catch more wind, and wind carries seeds, twigs and leaves across gardens and onto roofs that have no tree above them.
The housing mixes older properties near the town centre with family homes and newer developments around it. Many of the later houses have attached garages, porches, conservatories or rear extensions, each with its own short gutter and downpipe. Those lower runs are often the first to overflow and the last to be checked.
Several roofs, several gutters
An extended family home can have a main eaves gutter on each side, a lower run along a single-storey extension, a short length over the porch and another on the garage. Every one of those collects water from its own patch of roof and sends it to its own outlet.
Short runs are easy to dismiss. A porch gutter may be only a few paces long, yet it takes everything that falls on the slope above it, and one handful of wet leaves over its outlet is enough to stop it. At the site visit we walk the whole roofline, including the back of the house and the side passage, and agree which runs are included before any work is booked.
Wind-blown debris
Overhanging trees are the biggest source of gutter debris, but a house with no tree nearby can still collect a surprising amount. Wind moves seed heads, dry leaves and twigs across open ground until they meet a roof, and the gutter is where they come to rest. Moss shed from the tiles adds to the load, along with grit worn from older concrete tiles.
Once wet, that mixture flattens into a dense layer below the rim that cannot be seen from the lawn. This is why we do not judge a gutter by looking up at it. We clear each run from end to end and then put water through it.
Doing it yourself
Clearing a gutter looks simple from the ground. In practice it means working at the roof edge with wet, heavy debris, often reaching sideways from a ladder over a conservatory, a sloping path or a side return. That sideways reach is where most of the risk sits.
Our pole-fed gutter vacuum works from ground level on most domestic runs, so nobody leans a ladder on the fascia and the debris goes into the machine rather than into the borders. Where a run is beyond its reach or sits over glass, a properly footed ladder is planned at the site visit, not improvised on the day.
On the day
The order matters: we look before we clear, and we test before we leave.
We go round the whole property, front, back and sides, noting each gutter run, outlet, hopper and downpipe, along with any split, sag or dropped bracket, before a single leaf is moved.
Leaves, moss, silt and grit are drawn out of the channel with a pole-fed vacuum from the ground wherever it reaches, starting with the highest runs so nothing falls into a gutter we have already finished.
Each outlet and downpipe is flushed so we watch the water leave rather than assume it does. If water still backs up below the gutter, we tell you the restriction is deeper in the drainage.
Green streaking is washed off the outer face of the gutter and the fascia. Brackets that have worked loose and joints that have parted are re-seated where that is a minor fix.
Before we leave you get a plain account of the roofline: what came out, which runs were worst, and anything, such as a cracked section, that needs a gutter specialist.
Limits
Clearing restores the gutter's capacity and gives water a free path to the drain. It does not alter how a gutter was installed. A run hung without enough fall, a joint that has failed or an undersized gutter under a large roof slope can still struggle in heavy rain once it is clean, and we will point that out rather than suggest another clean.
Choosing us
The garage, porch and extension gutters are listed at the site visit, so you know exactly what is included before the day.
Wet debris goes into the vacuum and leaves with us, so there is no second clear-up across the lawn, paths or borders.
We fix the small things that are genuinely small and say plainly when a gutter needs a specialist instead of patching it.
Fully insured, with access planned at the site visit and Chiltern Surface Co accountable for the work from start to finish.
Nearby
We also clear gutters in the villages around the town, including Monks Risborough, Longwick, Askett, Bledlow, Lacey Green and Saunderton. Homes in the smaller villages often sit closer to fields and woodland, which tends to mean more debris and a shorter gap between clears.

Questions
Yes. Most two-storey homes are within reach of the pole-fed vacuum from ground level. Taller gables, sloping ground at the back or a run above a conservatory may need a different approach, and that is confirmed at the site visit.
Yes, if you want them included. Lower runs are agreed at the site visit and listed on the quotation, because they are easy to forget and are often the first to overflow in heavy rain.
It means the channel has been holding material for some time. Seedlings and grass need a bed of settled silt and leaf litter to root in. We remove them as part of the clear and check the nearest outlet closely, since that is usually where the build-up started.
Not always. If water is backing up behind debris and spilling at the joint, clearing it often stops the drip. If the seal has failed or the joint has parted, we re-seat it where that is a minor fix and tell you if it needs replacing.
Yes. Moss on the tiles dries, loosens and washes down in rain and wind, then packs together at the outlet. Clearing the gutter removes it, but the roof keeps shedding until it is cleaned, which is a separate service.
Once a year suits many homes, and twice for those under or beside large trees. Houses on the sheltered side of the town, where debris stays wet longer, often sit at the more frequent end. We suggest an interval after seeing what came out.
