Gutter Cleaning · Buckinghamshire
High Wycombe climbs the steep sides of the Wye valley, so many homes have tight frontages, sloping gardens and gutters shared along a terrace. We clear them from the ground wherever we can, flush the downpipes and report what we find.

Hillside homes
When a house sits above or below the road, its gutters are either well above eye level or hidden behind the roof of the house in front. Back elevations face steep gardens that are awkward to stand in. Overflow can run for months before anyone notices, usually when a damp patch appears or a downpipe stops draining.

High Wycombe homes
High Wycombe fills the valley of the River Wye, with housing climbing the slopes on both sides. Its long history of furniture making shaped the older town, and Victorian and Edwardian terraces still line many of the hillside roads near the centre, often with slate roofs, gutter runs that pass from house to house, and access to the back through a shared passage.
Further up and out, inter-war and post-war semis, later estates and larger detached houses reach the wooded edges of the valley, in places such as Downley and Booker. Because aspect changes from street to street, two similar houses can collect very different amounts of moss and leaf litter, depending on which way they face and how close the trees stand.
Terraced houses
On a terrace, the gutter often runs continuously from one house to the next, with downpipes shared or spaced every two or three properties. Water does not respect boundaries: a blockage next door can make your section overflow, and debris from your stretch can travel towards theirs.
We clear and flush the section that belongs to your home and check the outlet that serves it. If the cause of your overflow is clearly in a neighbour's part of the run, we tell you where it is, so a conversation with next door can sort it out rather than a repeat visit to a gutter that is already clear.
Access on slopes
Steep sites change how a gutter is reached, not whether it can be cleared. A pole-fed vacuum works from the pavement or a path, which suits narrow frontages where a ladder would block the way, and it reaches high gutters without anyone leaning on the fascia. Rear gutters above a sloping garden are where planning matters most, because level, firm footing for a ladder may simply not exist there.
We look at every elevation at the site visit and agree the method for each, including how equipment will reach the back of the house.
Older roofs
Many older homes in the valley have slate roofs, and moss and algae on shaded slates shed steadily into the gutter. The guttering itself may have been replaced in uPVC over an older timber fascia, or may still be cast iron. Either way, the fixings are often older than the gutter they hold, and these are the faults we look for while clearing:
How it works
Most of the work can be done from the ground, even on a steep site. Anything that needs a ladder has been agreed beforehand.
Front, back and sides are looked at in turn, with outlets, downpipes, joints and the roof edge noted, along with any section of gutter shared with a neighbour.
The pole-fed vacuum reaches up from the path or pavement and draws leaves, moss and silt straight out of the channel. A properly footed ladder is used only where the vacuum cannot reach well.
We run water along the cleared gutter and down each pipe to see it drain. If it backs up lower down, in a bend or underground, we say so and explain what we think is happening.
Loose brackets and parted joints on your section are re-seated where that is a minor job. Cracks, sagging lengths and failed fascia boards are pointed out for the right trade.
Green streaking is washed from the gutter's outer face, the paths are left clear, the debris goes with us, and you get a plain summary of the roofline.
Be realistic
If debris was the reason for the overflow, a clear gutter will carry water away again. Clearing cannot repair a cracked section or a perished seal, and on a terrace it cannot fix a blockage in a part of the run that belongs to someone else. Valley-side trees and mossy roofs keep supplying debris, so most homes here need clearing on a regular basis rather than once.
Why us
We have carried out work in High Wycombe and know how its slopes, terraces and tight frontages affect access to the roofline.
Gutters are cleared from the path or pavement wherever the vacuum can reach, which keeps ladders off narrow frontages and away from steep gardens.
If a problem lies in a neighbour's section or in the drains below, we tell you where it is rather than leaving you to guess.
Operatives are fully insured, access is agreed at the site visit, and the owner is accountable for every job we take on.
Nearby
We also clear gutters in the places around the town: Hazlemere, Downley, Loudwater, Flackwell Heath and Booker, as well as Marlow, where we are based. Hillside homes and mature trees are common to all of them, so the same checks apply.

Questions
Yes. We clear and flush the section that belongs to your house and check the outlet that serves it. If the overflow is coming from a blockage in a neighbour's part of the run, we show you where it is.
Usually with the pole-fed vacuum from a path or patio, which needs no level footing against the wall. Where that will not reach, we plan a safe ladder position at the site visit, or tell you plainly if access is the constraint.
Only if there is no other way. Many terraces have a shared passage or other rear access. We agree the route to the back at the site visit, so nothing has to be improvised on the day.
Yes. Every outlet and downpipe on the section we clear is flushed with water so we can see it draining. A blockage in an underground drain needs a drainage specialist, and we tell you if that is where the problem lies.
Yes. Grass, seedlings and moss growing in the channel are lifted out together with the silt that feeds them, so the run is cleared to its base rather than trimmed at the surface.
For most homes, the end of autumn, after the leaves have fallen and before the wettest weeks. Houses below evergreens or mossy slate collect debris through the year, so for them the interval matters more than the month.
No. Debris is drawn into the vacuum rather than dropped, and anything that does fall is swept up before we leave. The green streaking washed from the gutter face is rinsed down, and the paths are left clear.
