Patio Cleaning · Oxfordshire
Gardens in Didcot span older village paving, post-war concrete and the porcelain and sandstone of Ladygrove and Great Western Park. We clean each to suit what it is, with particular care over an even finish and the details by the doors.

Our approach
Paving laid quite recently can look tired surprisingly quickly. Algae finds the shaded side of a fence, grime settles in the texture of porcelain, and the strip by the doors darkens with everyday traffic. At a free site visit we look at how your patio has weathered and explain how to bring it back evenly without harsh treatment.

Didcot gardens
Didcot has grown through several distinct periods. Older homes remain around the original village and Northbourne, post-war estates followed, and more recently Ladygrove and Great Western Park have added large numbers of newer houses. The gardens follow the same pattern, so the patios we see range from long-established concrete and stone to recent porcelain and sandstone.
Many newer gardens are compact and fenced, with the patio running straight out from glazed doors and a lawn beyond. Fences and young hedges shade one side while the rest sits in open sun, so a single patio can weather unevenly. Older gardens, with mature trees and planting, hold more damp and shade across the whole of the paving.
Porcelain
Porcelain is dense and far less porous than natural stone, so dirt and algae sit on its surface and generally come away well. That makes the finish the real test. Large slabs in one colour show every missed strip, every darker corner and every grubby joint line.
We work methodically across the whole area at a gentle setting, give extra attention to the joints and the edges, and avoid harsh products the surface does not need.
Doors and drains
The paving by the back doors usually takes the most foot traffic and often sits beside a linear drainage channel or gully. Dirt, leaves and silt collect there, and a dark line forms along the threshold. We clean these details deliberately, with the pressure kept low near door seals and render.
Older paving
In the older parts of town and on post-war estates, patios are more often concrete slabs or natural stone that has been down for a long time. Concrete is robust when sound, but older slabs can have worn faces and fragile edges, so the pressure is set to their condition.
Natural stone may carry black spot, a lichen in its pores, which we treat with a specialist application followed by the Chiltern EverGuard™ Treatment rather than with force. Long-established marks can need a second visit.
Uneven weathering
Where a fence or young hedge shades part of the paving, that part stays damp, grows algae and darkens, while the sunny side stays pale. Pots, tables and storage boxes add their own outlines.
Cleaning the shaded side harder than the rest only swaps one contrast for another. We clean the whole patio as one surface and treat the growth where it is, aiming for a finish that reads evenly from the doors to the lawn.
How we work
The sequence stays the same; the settings and products at each stage are chosen for your paving.
We identify the paving and joint type, note growth and staining, check thresholds, channels and gullies, and look at the fences, planting and render around the patio.
Furniture and pots are moved as agreed, loose debris is swept up, and planting, lawn edges, door seals and painted surfaces are protected or planned for rinsing.
The patio is cleaned evenly at the lowest effective setting for porcelain, sandstone, limestone or concrete, with shaded and sunny areas brought back together.
Thresholds, steps, edges and joints get focused attention. Black spot receives a specialist application, and joints that have lost their sand are re-sanded.
Chiltern EverGuard™ is applied to the clean paving, drainage points are checked after rinsing, and we explain how to keep the patio looking even.
Honest limits
The usual result is a significant, even improvement in colour and grip. Cleaning does not correct a patio laid without enough fall, repair a failed drain, or fix sunken or cracked slabs. Old repairs can become more noticeable once surface dirt has gone, and older concrete will still look its age. Shaded areas will see growth return first.
Why us
Porcelain and newer paving are cleaned for an even result across every slab, joint and edge, not just a brighter middle.
Thresholds, steps and drainage channels are cleaned deliberately, with debris collected rather than flushed into the drain.
Porcelain, sandstone, limestone and concrete each get their own setting and products, with black spot treated rather than forced.
Every clean is carried out by fully insured operatives, and the site visit sets out clearly what is and is not included.
Nearby
We also clean patios in Harwell, Chilton, East Hagbourne, Blewbury, Steventon and Sutton Courtenay. Gardens there range from village cottages to newer homes, so the same paving-first assessment applies in each.

Questions
Because shade and damp matter more than age. A fenced garden often has one side that barely sees the sun, and algae establishes there within a few seasons. Cleaning removes it, and the treatment that follows slows its return.
Yes. Porcelain usually responds well because it is far less porous than natural stone. The work is in an even finish across the slabs and clean, consistent joints, without products the surface does not need.
Yes, as part of the patio clean. Silt and debris are cleared from accessible channels and collected rather than washed down the drain. If water still does not drain, we report it so the cause can be investigated.
No. Cleaning lifts grime and growth and can make a real difference to colour, but worn faces, old repairs and the general age of concrete slabs remain. We describe the likely result at the site visit.
Yes. Black spot is a lichen within the pores of the stone, so it receives a specialist application as well as controlled cleaning. Established marks may be reduced rather than cleared in one visit.
Typically between 12 and 24 months. A patio shaded by fences or trees sits towards the shorter end and open paving towards the longer, with the surface and upkeep also affecting it.
Yes. Lawn edges, borders and planting next to the paving are considered before cleaning, with run-off managed and areas rinsed where needed. Tell us about anything newly planted at the site visit.
