Gutter Cleaning · Buckinghamshire
Amersham is really two places: the old town along the Misbourne valley and the later town up on the hill. We clear gutters in both, including the garage, porch and outbuilding runs that are usually forgotten until they overflow.

Look beyond the main roof
A house rarely drains from one roof alone. Garages, porches, bay windows, lean-to extensions and garden buildings each carry their own short gutters, and because they sit low and out of the way they are often the last to be checked. Short runs fill quickly, and a blocked one can spill straight onto a doorstep or a path.

Amersham homes
Old Amersham lies along the floor of the Misbourne valley, with wooded Chiltern slopes rising on either side. Its conservation area holds period brick houses, clay-tiled roofs and older rainwater goods, and the valley keeps many of them shaded and slow to dry after rain. Moss settles readily on those roofs and washes down into the gutters beneath.
Amersham on the Hill grew up around the Metropolitan line station from the late nineteenth century onwards, and its roads hold inter-war, post-war and newer houses, many with concrete tiles, render and uPVC guttering. Mature gardens and street trees bring leaf fall to both levels of the town, and the villages close by, such as Chesham Bois and Little Chalfont, are well wooded too.
Valley homes
In the bottom of a valley, roofs see less direct sun and hold moisture for longer, and that suits moss. As it grows along the tile laps it loosens in dry spells and is carried down by the next shower, so a gutter beneath a mossy roof refills steadily even with no tree beside it.
Guttering on the older properties is often cast iron or an older profile, fixed to timber fascias. We clear it carefully, take nothing apart and note any rust, sagging or weeping joints for you. Moss growing on the roof itself is a separate job; on a gutter visit we clear only what has already come down.
Secondary roofs
The short gutters on lower roofs are cleared in the same visit as the main house. They collect more than their size suggests, partly from their own slope and partly from what washes or blows down from the roof above. Because they drain into short downpipes, water butts or straight onto the ground, a blockage soon shows at the door or on the path.
On the hill
Houses up on the hill are more likely to carry uPVC gutters on uPVC fascias and soffits. These are light and simple to clear, but brackets can work loose over the years, so a run starts to dip between fixings and water lies in the low point instead of reaching the outlet. We re-seat loose brackets where that is a minor fix.
On the same houses, a thin green or grey line often forms down the outer face of the gutter and along the fascia board. We wash that off while we are there, so the roofline looks as tidy as the channel behind it.
How a visit runs
Every house is cleared in the same order. The access for each part of the roofline is agreed beforehand, so the day itself runs to plan.
We check every gutter on the property, garages, porches and bays included, along with the outlets, downpipes and roof edge, and note any splits or failed joints before work begins.
A pole-fed gutter vacuum lifts leaves, moss and silt out of the channel from ground level wherever that works. Sections it cannot reach well are cleared from a properly footed ladder.
Water is poured along each run and down every pipe, so we see it drain rather than hope it does. Anything blocked deeper, below ground, is noted for a drainage specialist.
Loose brackets and parted joints are re-seated where a minor fix will hold, and green streaking is washed from the outside of the gutters, fascias and soffits.
Debris goes with us, paths and borders are left as we found them, and you get a short summary of the roofline, including what cannot be seen from the garden.
Honest limits
Once the debris is out, a sound gutter will carry water to its outlet again. Clearing cannot mend a cracked section, replace a perished seal or give a run the fall it was never hung with. In a valley full of trees and mossy roofs the gutters will refill over time, so we suggest an interval based on what came out rather than a fixed calendar.
Why us
Garages, porches, bays and lean-tos are part of the survey, so no short run is left full while the main gutter is cleared.
Most runs are cleared with a vacuum from below, so nothing leans on the fascia or stands in your borders unless the access genuinely needs a ladder.
You are told in ordinary language what we saw along the roofline: weeping joints, dropped brackets and anything that needs another trade.
Our operatives are fully insured, the access for each elevation is agreed in advance, and the owner stands behind every job.
Nearby
From the town we also clear gutters in Chesham Bois, Little Chalfont, Coleshill, Hyde Heath and Penn Street, and down the valley in Chalfont St Giles. Wooded lanes and older cottages are common across them, so the same careful checks apply.

Questions
Yes. We include them in the walk-round and clear them in the same visit as the house, where they can be reached safely. Low roofs under trees often hold far more than you would expect for their size.
The valley is shaded and damp, so roofs stay wet for longer and moss grows well on them. That moss sheds into the gutter through the year, on top of the autumn leaves from the wooded slopes and the gardens nearby.
Yes, with care. These gutters sit over glass or polycarbonate and often have very little fall, so we clear them by hand or by vacuum depending on access, without putting any weight on the roof panels.
No. We clear the moss that has already fallen into the gutter. Moss growing across the tiles is a separate Roof Cleaning job with its own assessment, and we would only mention it if it is plainly feeding the gutters.
We flush it from the top to clear what we can reach. If the water still backs up, the restriction is usually lower down, at a bend, a gully or an underground drain, and we tell you where we think it lies rather than guess at a fix.
Most homes need it once or twice a year, and homes under trees or below a mossy roof sit at the more frequent end. We suggest an interval once we have seen how much came out of your run.
