Sandstone Patio Cleaning and Repointing in Princes Risborough
Indian sandstone patio cleaning in Princes Risborough: black spot and algae treated, back steps relaid and repointed, protected with Chiltern EverGuard™.

Black spot and lichen treated within the stone, all of the old jointing taken out, and the whole patio repointed.

Black spot lichen, green algae and soiling had taken the colour out of the stone across the whole patio. Underneath it, joints were cracked, loose or missing, with weeds growing through them. Open joints let water into the bedding below and give growth a foothold, so the patio needed more than a clean.
Every area of sandstone was deep cleaned, with sandstone-safe treatments for the black spot, lichen and rust staining, given the time they need to work rather than more pressure. Loose and failed jointing was extracted as the stone was cleaned, and the visit finished with Chiltern EverGuard™.
With the stone clean, the state of the joints was plain to see. All of the old jointing came out and the joints were cleaned out to depth. Two coats of an invisible pre-grout sealer protected the face of the stone, then the whole patio was repointed with a resin-based jointing compound that sets to a durable, semi-flexible joint.

Under the grey was a warm, multi-coloured sandstone. Cleaned, treated and fully repointed, the patio reads as one finished surface again, from the house to the garden, with a clean, even joint around every slab.

Chiltern Surface Co carried out this sandstone patio cleaning and repointing in Cholesbury, Buckinghamshire, close to our patio cleaning in Chesham and Great Missenden. We also offer patio cleaning, driveway cleaning, roof cleaning and roof moss removal across Oxfordshire and Berkshire, including Thame, Henley-on-Thames, Maidenhead and Windsor.
Black spot lives in the pores of sandstone, and a patio is only as sound as its joints. That is why a lasting result is a staged process — controlled cleaning, targeted treatment, protection with Chiltern EverGuard™ and, where the joints have failed, a full repoint — rather than a single pass with a pressure washer.
Advice

Patios
Clean sandstone safely with a surface-specific method that removes dirt, algae, moss, and black spot without scarring the stone or damaging the joints.

Patios & Natural Stone
Black spot looks like dirt, which is precisely why it is so often treated like dirt. The trouble is that established lichen on porous sandstone is a biological problem, not simply a dirty surface.

A green or slippery patio is a common winter problem. Learn why it happens, which paving materials need care and how to reduce slip risk without damaging the surface.
