The town

An old coaching road between Sandown Park and the commons

Esher lies about 38 miles from our base in Marlow, by the M4, the M25 and the A3, which has bypassed the town since the 1970s. The High Street follows the old Portsmouth Road, now the A307, with Sandown Park racecourse to the north and Esher Commons to the south.

High Street
The town centre has been a conservation area since 1973. St George's, the mid-16th-century church on the north side of the High Street, is listed Grade I, and the street mixes Georgian stock brick, often rendered, with painted brick and stucco and a terrace of knapped flint with yellow brick dressings.
Offices and shops
The High Street mixes shops and restaurants with offices, some in newer glazed blocks. Fronts open straight onto the footway beside the A307, so each section is cordoned and worked in turn.
Venues
Sandown Park racecourse, open since 1875, and the town's pubs and restaurants bring large arrival areas, terraces and entrances, cleaned around event days and trading hours.
Business sites
Sandown Industrial Park on Mill Road, partly rebuilt in recent years, and the trading estate at West Molesey have warehouse and light-industrial units with yards and loading doors.
Local conditions
Esher Commons and the wooded grounds around the town drop leaves into gutters and keep north faces damp, and traffic on the A3 and A307 dulls the roadside fronts.
Around Esher
Claygate, Hinchley Wood, Weston Green, Thames Ditton, Long Ditton, Molesey, Hersham, Oxshott and Cobham.

Safety and site control

Planned before we arrive

Roofs
We identify the roof covering before any work is proposed and request the asbestos register. Asbestos-cement and fragile roofs are never pressure-washed or walked on.
Wash water
We plan wash-water control and drain protection for every site.
Listed and conservation buildings
We use test areas and low-pressure methods on listed and conservation-area buildings.
Schools and care settings
We work in school holidays and INSET days, or behind exclusion zones away from pupils and residents.

Questions

Common questions

Can High Street fronts be cleaned beside the A307?

Yes. We cordon one section of frontage at a time, keep the footway usable wherever possible, and can start early or work out of hours.

Do you work on listed buildings in the conservation area?

Yes. Brick, flint, stucco and painted surfaces are recorded first, and low-pressure cleaning follows a trial patch you have approved.

Can venue arrival areas be cleaned between events?

Yes. The survey records event and trading days, and the programme fits the work into the gaps between them, zone by zone.

Is the site survey free?

Yes. We visit within five working days, and there is no charge for the site survey.

What should I include in the request?

The address, what the building is used for and whether it is listed, the surfaces involved, access limits and any event or trading days. If roofs or gutters are included, we will also need the asbestos register and drainage drawings.
