The town

Offices, riverside premises and old brick streets

Staines-upon-Thames lies about 23 miles from our base in Marlow, by the M4 and the M25, or along the river through Windsor on the A308. Close to Heathrow and to junction 13 of the M25, the town has office buildings, riverside pubs and restaurants, shops and retail units, schools and care settings, and blocks run by managing agents.

Offices
Office buildings line the High Street, Bridge Street and London Road, many of them glazed or clad blocks with entrance canopies and car parks. Staff entrances stay open as the work moves from zone to zone.
Conservation area
The town centre conservation area, designated in 1975, holds almost 40 listed buildings, including St Mary's Church and the Blue Anchor. Its terraces are mostly red or buff brick or render under slate or tile roofs, with tile hanging on Church Street and a buff-brick terrace of the 1820s on Clarence Street.
The river
Staines Bridge, built in granite to the Rennies' design and opened in 1832, carries the town over the Thames. Elevations facing the water stay damp and shaded, and gather algae and green growth.
Local conditions
Traffic on the A30, the A308 and the M25 adds a grey film to façades and glazing, and roof drainage leaves runoff marks on brick and render.
Around Staines-upon-Thames
Egham, Egham Hythe, Laleham, Ashford, Stanwell, Shepperton and Sunbury in Surrey. Wraysbury and Datchet, just over the boundary in Berkshire, are covered too.

Safety and site control

Planned before we arrive

Roofs
We identify the roof covering before any work is proposed and request the asbestos register. Asbestos-cement and fragile roofs are never pressure-washed or walked on.
Wash water
We plan wash-water control and drain protection for every site.
Listed and conservation buildings
We use test areas and low-pressure methods on listed and conservation-area buildings.
Schools and care settings
We work in school holidays and INSET days, or behind exclusion zones away from pupils and residents.

Questions

Common questions

Can riverside premises be cleaned without wash water reaching the Thames?

Yes. Wash-water control and drain protection are planned at the survey, and beside the river the working area and run-off controls are written into the RAMS before work begins.

Can an office stay open during the works?

Yes. We work one zone at a time behind cordons, with out-of-hours working where staff access to entrances and car parks cannot be interrupted.

Do you work on listed buildings in the conservation area?

Yes. Brick, render and tile hanging are recorded front by front, and a test area settles the method before the rest is cleaned.

Do you cover Egham, Ashford and Shepperton?

Yes, along with Laleham, Stanwell and Sunbury. The site survey is free, and we visit within five working days.

What should I include in the request?

The address, the property type, the surfaces involved, any access or parking limits and timing. We will need the asbestos register and drainage drawings before any roof or gutter work.
