The county

Thames towns, office centres and the Surrey Hills

Chiltern Surface Co Ltd is based in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Staines-upon-Thames is reached by the M4 and the M25, which then crosses the north of the county; the A3 meets it at junction 10, between Esher and Guildford.

Commercial property here ranges from office towers and business parks to industrial estates, hotels, schools, care settings and historic town centres, so every site is surveyed before the work is priced.

Office centres
Woking's town centre has high-rise office and residential towers, and Guildford, Staines-upon-Thames and Esher have offices along their high streets and main roads. Entrances and car parks are kept open, with each zone worked in turn.
Industrial estates
Slyfield in Guildford, Sheerwater in Woking and the older estates of Reigate bring brick and steel-clad units, profiled roofs, service yards and loading bays.
Historic centres
Guildford's town centre is a conservation area of Bargate stone, clunch, flint, timber frame and brick, and Esher and Staines-upon-Thames have conservation areas too. Tile hanging and painted weatherboarding, both found here, need gentle methods.
Local conditions
About a quarter of the county lies within the Surrey Hills National Landscape, and it is England's most wooded county, so shade, damp and leaf fall mark elevations and fill gutters. Traffic on the M25, M3 and A3 adds a film to roadside fronts.

Safety and site control

Planned before we arrive

Roofs
We identify the roof covering before any work is proposed and request the asbestos register. Asbestos-cement and fragile roofs are never pressure-washed or walked on.
Wash water
We plan wash-water control and drain protection for every site.
Listed and conservation buildings
We use test areas and low-pressure methods on listed and conservation-area buildings.
Schools and care settings
We work in school holidays and INSET days, or behind exclusion zones away from pupils and residents.

Questions

Common questions

Which parts of Surrey do you cover?

Our coverage includes Guildford, Woking, Staines-upon-Thames, Esher, Weybridge, Walton-on-Thames, Egham, Chertsey, Cobham and the business estates around them. If the site is near the edge of the county, the postcode lets us confirm coverage before the survey.

Is the site survey free in Surrey?

Yes. Surveys are free across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Surrey, and the visit happens within five working days.

Can you work around a hotel or office that stays open?

Yes. Arrivals, entrances, deliveries and parking are mapped at the survey, and each zone is cordoned in turn, with early-morning or out-of-hours working where guests or staff need the space.

Do you clean tile-hung and weatherboarded buildings?

Yes, with care. Tile hanging and painted weatherboarding are cleaned at low pressure after a test area, and loose tiles or flaking paint are recorded in the defect schedule rather than cleaned over.

What do you need from us before the survey?

The address, the type of property, the surfaces concerned, opening or operating hours and any access limits. If roofs or gutters are included, please have the asbestos register and drainage drawings ready.
