The town

A market town in the Tring Gap

Tring lies about 22 miles from our base in Marlow, through the Chiltern Hills, and is the nearest of our four Hertfordshire towns. The High Street follows the line of the Roman Akeman Street and the A41 bypasses the town to the south. Commercial property is small in scale: shops, cafés, pubs and offices in the centre, business units on the edges, and schools, care settings and rural business sites around it.

High Street
Tring's centre is a conservation area. Many of its listed buildings are timber frames later cased in red or plum brick or rendered, under clay-tile and slate roofs, beside Victorian and Edwardian fronts. The parish church is flint with Totternhoe stone, a soft local chalk stone that needs gentle methods.
Business estates
Akeman Business Park, a short walk from the centre, has small offices in converted industrial buildings, and the Icknield Way Industrial Estate, near the A41, has warehouse and production units. The flour mill at New Mill stands beside the canal.
Local conditions
The town lies within the Chilterns National Landscape, with the beech woods of Tring Park and Ashridge close by. Shade, damp and leaf fall bring algae to elevations and fill gutters and valleys each autumn.
Around Tring
Aldbury, Wigginton, Northchurch, Long Marston, Wilstone and Puttenham in Hertfordshire. Over the boundary, Aston Clinton, Marsworth, Ivinghoe and Pitstone in Buckinghamshire.

Safety and site control

Planned before we arrive

Roofs
We identify the roof covering before any work is proposed and request the asbestos register. Asbestos-cement and fragile roofs are never pressure-washed or walked on.
Wash water
We plan wash-water control and drain protection for every site.
Listed and conservation buildings
We use test areas and low-pressure methods on listed and conservation-area buildings.
Schools and care settings
We work in school holidays and INSET days, or behind exclusion zones away from pupils and residents.

Questions

Common questions

How far is Tring from your base?

About 22 miles by road from Marlow, through the Chilterns. Tring is within our coverage, and we survey within five working days.

Can you clean listed buildings on the High Street?

Yes. The survey identifies brick, render, flint or soft stone on each front, and the method is tried on a small patch before the rest is cleaned at low pressure.

Can a shop or café stay open during the work?

Yes. Each section of frontage is cordoned in turn so the door stays usable, and work can start before trading where the footway is narrow.

Is pressure washing suitable for flint and soft stone?

No. Flint walls, soft brick and chalk stone need gentle, low-pressure methods; pressure washing is kept for robust concrete and paving.

What should I include in a survey request?

Where the property is, what it is used for and whether it is listed, the surfaces involved and any access limits, with photographs if you have them. Before roof or gutter work we ask for the asbestos register and drainage drawings.

Next step

Request a Site Survey

Let us know where the Tring property is and what is wrong with its exterior. The survey comes first; the fixed-price proposal then sets out the method for each surface.

We aim to reply to every survey request within one hour, 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
